Towing capacity for a fith wheel
I have a 2012 King Ranch F150 Eco-Boost with tow package.
We are looking to purchase a fifth-wheel trailer. Can anyone tell me what the maximum weight of a trailer should be?

A screw King Ranch has pretty lousy payload. Even with 7700 GVWR, you probably only have 1500 lbs or so of payload. Not very good for payload. If you don't mind going over payload a bit, get a light Anderson 5th wheel hitch and maybe some AAL springs. I would try to keep it under 9k lbs for the 5th wheel.

probably wont even have 1500lbs of payload to be honest, lots of equipment in the KR f150's. the only way you will have 7700GVWR is with max tow. so the payload will really be low if its the regular tow package, probably 1200lbs or so. Going to be hard to find a 5th wheel with a pin weight thatll work with that + cargo and passengers. what wheelbase do you have OP ?

I'm not sure what the screw is? What is it? is that THE 3.73 ELTRONIC LOCK REAR AXLE?
Wheel base is 145"
It does say 7200# GVWR pckg
Is OP Off road package? It does have that. Probably not a good thing for extra weight!
If I could tow up to 9000 lbs 5th wheel that would be great. Its just my wife and I maybe the granddaughters on a trip or 2. I'm not trying to get a real big 5th wheel. Maybe 30'.

as others have said ..max tow helps but you need HD which I believe is not available in KR
payload ..what do you weigh what does your wife weigh ? Dogs ? what else will you carry in truck ?
Nice truck but kinda wrong for towing

RV manufactures are making a larger assortment of "half-ton capable" fifth wheels these days. Some of them have pin weights as low as 1300lbs. So it's not entirely unrealistic to pull a 5'er with an F150 nowadays.

My pin on our (wife and us only) camper started out at 1190 and then we added all the stuff to the camper. I added a 5th Airborn Sidewinder to the 5er and a Reese hitch and air bags which cuts into payload of the truck too. My truck has a little over 1800# payload, can tow 11,000+# and total gross combined weight rating of over 17,000#. My trailer is a 29', has three slides, empty weight of 7500# and max of 9999#. We are no where close to the max on the trailer as we are weekend campers and travel light...about 8500-9000# max. You will not be able to haul one like this with a KR as your payload is over 600 pounds less but they do make lighter (and smaller) 5ers out there. Do you homework... read threads and forums, look at campers and floorplans and then ask yourself (before you buy) just how comfy (as you will be over the trucks ratings) will you feel after you buy one.

I have Max Tow with 1840 payload. My fiver is 9500 loaded, up from 7900 dry. My 1410 pin weight went to about 1650 loaded. While I am within other specs, I am 500 over my rear axle limit. 12K of towing and 59K on the truck. Towing is hard on spark plugs. The center post was gone by 40K on my originals, I have 18K with a starting gap of .030 on the current plugs and am changing them this week as it starting to pulse (probably miss or spark blow out) on uphill pulls.
Cougar makes smaller and lighter fivers than mine or Red's so you might want to look at those. Your dry pin weight should be much over 1000 with a dry weight close to 6000.
If I were buying an F150 today, I would get Max Tow AND HD Payload. Also, a Reese Sidewinder/Revolution pin box is about 200 lbs lighter than a Pullrite SuperGlide.
