Towing 5.0 or 3.5. Undecided
 

I'm looking to buy a 4x4 to tow my 4500 lbs travel trailer. I run down the road 60 to 65 mph and usually encounter 6% grades on the hwy and occasionally 20% grades on dirt. I'm undecided on whether to get a 5.0 or a 3.5 eco.i'm interested in hearing some opinions.

Both are great choices, but I'll throw another option out there...2.7EB. It will handle that weight with complete ease, get better fuel mileage than the other two, and seems to have the least reported problems.

If you can't be talked into the 2.7EB, I'd go with the 3.5EB. It was my choice because it makes a ton of power down low, even more once tuned, and currently seems to be more reliable than the 5.0.

If shopping used, I'd look for a pre '18 5.0. If new, I'd go with one of the EB's.

Just strictly my opinion. None are likely a bad choice.

I would have paid extra to get the 6.2LS in my F150. Too bad the only way to get one is to buy a crappy truck.

One thing never seems to change...it takes a combination of Ford, GM, and Ram to make a great truck. Maybe sprinkle in some Tundra reliability and you'd have perfection.

About what elevation will you mainly be towing at?

The 3.5 EcoBeast is the logical choice. Is that 4500 dry weight or is that the most the TT will ever weigh ?
