Towing in 2016: 3.5 Ecoboost vs 5.0 V-8

Please don't tow a trailer that large with a half ton with my mom, younger sister, and niece driving the roads with you.
Just because it can pull it down the road, doesn't mean it can handle the load or bring it to a stop. Get a 3/4 ton. Better to be overkill than overloaded.

That extra torque is what, 30% more? 1500lb is less than 10% more GCVW so no, that torque definitely does not get eaten up by the extra weight of the truck.

about the number of EcoBoosts worked on, take into account the number of them on the road vs the 5.0.
If you really want to know why the EcoBoost is such a stellar towing machine just look at the horsepower of the the EB vs the 5.0 at 2500 RPM. ( graph provided above). It's said that torque is what it is about for towing, and that is because you can develop more horsepower at a lower, more comfortable, rpm. No doubt, the 5.0 tows the same load, just at a higher RPM to get up the same hill. Let's not mention the 3% HP loss per 1000ft that the ecoboost doesn't have to contend with.
I really have no issue with the 5.0, but for towing .....

For sure @boom50cal the idea of a 3/4 pulling such is the perfect match, the reality for some of us is that we are pulling such a mass max 12 times a year with short to long distances... The idea of commuting with a 3/4 ton truck the other 300 days a year was at least for me not that appealing mainly on comfort and maintenance cost (B20's). I would highly doubt Ford would put us at risk if we have rigged our F150 with the right towing gears and sway bar AND be well within towing capacity of vehicle for sure. I am way more concerns about the ones I cross on the roads pulling similar trailers with old 04' V8 for example...

^^^^^^ I can't agree more. I couldn't justify having a more uncomfortable ride for 99% of my driving when the 150 can handle the load just fine. I assure you the truck handles the trailer fine except when you are dealing with 30-40 knot crosswinds.

Yup. And the f150 is so much fun to drive. Hated that part about the HD.

Just got back from towing over 300 miles this weekend with the 5.0. I was pulling my trailer fully loaded over 8k by a bit. On a couple steep hills I dropped to 4th, but mostly cruised at about 75mph on the freeway turning about 2500 in 5th.
The 5.0 is very pleasant at that speed and pulls strong only hitting 3500 in 4th.

I know I asked for opinions here, and I do appreciate them. But, I test drove both and just didn't like the feel or sounds odd the Eco. I also talked to a few people that own them that stayed they wish they had gone with the 5.0. They stated they didn't get anywhere near the advertised gas mileage. After test driving it, my mind was made up. I bought an LTX 4x4 5.0 w/ moonroof yesterday. Really nice ride... Comfortable, sporty, and really fun to drive. I'm really going to miss my Nissan Titan, but this truck is nice. Thanks again for everyone's opinions.
