I've towed all through those 2 areas w/6200# loaded and you'll be fine. I choose to lock out 6th typically because of headwinds and find I get better mpg doing so in my situation.

While I didn't lockout 6th.... I too agree that you will have no problems.... Just drive your tow carefully .... Double your distance in stopping and all driving and swing wide on the corners ... Your V8 has significant power and the tranny is a smart and powerful tool. Tow Haul at slower speeds .... In D on the highway.... The V8 gives more torque at higher RPMs ..... So feed it gas and relax....

You will lose power going over the passes. Take your time, slow down a bit. Enjoy the scenery.

Just got back from Colorado. Estes Park, Colorado Springs, Durango, Silverton, Ouray. Pulling a 2014 Coachman 22ft. Freedom Express. Dry weight 3700lbs. Loaded around 5000Lbs. 2014 F150 with 355 rear, 5.0 V8, Towing package. I usually lock out 6th gear use tow haul with anti sway turned on. Coming over Wolf Creek Pass out of Durango pulled trailer up the pass in 3rd gear. Kept my eye on transmission temp. It reached 233 degs. I was concerned but had no problems. Probably could pull heavier trailer.

I've pulled the million dollar highway to Durango with our TT and had the same effect on tranny temp

Well, you can lock out 6th but that will only be useful in rolling hills where you might get frequent shifting. Climbing at elevation, you aren't going to be anywhere near 6th gear. Just let the transmission do its job. It's programmed to be in the right gear for the load and demand. And use tow/haul.

Same truck, but I've not pulled quite that much weight. A few things I've noted. Even in tow/haul mode it wants to stay in higher gears longer than I like. With experience I've learned to anticipate when it will need lower gearing. When approaching an incline I've found it best to go ahead and lock out 5th and get it into 4th gear BEFORE it really needs the power. I seem to do better if I can keep rpm's around 2500-3000. If I wait for it to downshift to 4th I don't keep momentum as well as when I anticipate and downshift earlier.

Also keep in mind, 5th and 6th gears are both overdrives in these trucks. 4th gear is really the closest to what would normally be considered top gear and running in 3rd or even 2nd gear pulling loads up inclines isn't a bad thing.
