Tow mode or no tow mode?

With a load that light, and with the engine you have you don't NEED to use tow/haul mode. But it won't hurt anything to use it. Experiment with it both ways and see what you like best

I have had ecoboosts since '11. I have always left tow/haul off unless the load was over 5k lbs. Lately I have been running with it on anytime I am towing. With just a couple of trips it appears that I can get better fuel economy with it on instead of off.. Maybe more gear is more fuel efficient than more boost?

I tow a 16.5' fishing boat, total weight is around 3000# by my estimate with half a tank of gas, gear, 4 batteries, trolling motor, etc., in the foothill of the Smokies/TVA lakes. I've tried towing it in "regular" and in T/H mode, and seems to do better in the TH mode in terms of mpg's (not much to matter but it does help). I've tried locking out 9&10 in both modes, monitored ATF temps via the dash display, etc., and I now just put the truck in T/H mode and do not lock out any gears. ATF temps are normal (it is only 3000#), engine is always in the power band (above 1500 rpms), the downshifts help with braking for dealing with all the other bozo's out there that just have to pass me on a 4 lane divided hwy to cut me off and then throw on the brakes to make that right hand turn into their favorite beer store. .
It's just easier on me now to put it T/H mode and go fishing.
