Tow 1974 F100
I am needing to tow a 1974 F100 about 220 miles. I have a 2011 F150 "Off Road" with the 5.0 motor, 5.5 bed, and 3.73 gears. Is it possible to tow the '74 on a trailer safely with my 2011? Or, am I better off trying to find someone with a 3/4 ton?
If it is possible, what should I look for in an appropriate trailer and what precautions should I take. I have only pulled boats with my pickup in the past.

'74 F100 - 4600-5500Lb
uHaul orange car hauler - 2210Lb Note: 5290Lb max vehicle weight on the trailer,
Minimum tow weight: 6810Lb
Without knowing exactly what you have, I entered your truck as a supercrew, and the F100 as 4x4 into U-Haul's site and it says you can use either the dolly or the orange carrier.
uHaul's system is questionable as uHaul does not permit use of a WDH and you cannot adjust the position of the vehicle. The forward most wheels MUST be at the front of the trailer, there is no way to lock them down anywhere else. Unless the truck is short enough to center the motor between the trailer axles (or further forward), don't reverse load it, you'll have too much weight rear of the trailer axles.
You're looking at 600Lb or more on the hitch, which means you need a WDH, but uHaul says no. Maybe this is why they have a max speed of 55mph for their car haulers? Maybe their trailer wheels are further forward than most? At any rate, I haven't heard of any issues from members here pulling vehicles with their trailers.

Thanks for mentioning that, I didn't even think about it. Used one last summer for an Escape, but was in store and never looked at the requirements as they were asking questions to determine tow capability. Looks like 3900Lb for RWD.
Towed really well, but it was all flat terrain. Not sure I'd want 4650 (towed vehicle + dolly) hanging off the back end coming down a pass with only the truck's brakes to maintain speed. The brakes are good, but not coming down a long pass with nearly double the weight good.

Sunbelt has car haulers.. i rented one for a 900 mile round trip .. 04 expedition there and a kia sportage back. 5.4 with 3;73 and 35’s.. had to turn overdrive off and got about 10mpg. electric brakes mandatory. i was able to adjust the tongue weight with the vehicles on the trailer.. towed perfect both ways. A Super duty would of been nice.

U-haul car trailers use a surge break that’s on the trailer tongue. I’m not sure about the trailer dolly. I would assume the surge break is why U-haul says no to WDH. I’ve used the car trailers before, they tow pretty well considering their rentals

I've used a towing dolly from my local general rental center several times and for distances for 100 miles or more with various vehicles and had no problems.
