Wink total payload capacity when towing boat & camper

Hi, I have a friend who has a 2016 F150 4x4 SuperCab, 2.7L V6 EcoBoost, 6speed auto, 3:55 axle ratio.

Front GAWR 3450 lbs
Rear GAWR 3300 lbs
GRAWR 6500 lbs
Max GVRW 12,800 lbs

Tows a boat total weight aprox. 2500 lbs / without trailer
plus about 500 lbs of cargo including 2 people.

Question: He wants to know what the maximum weight of a slide in camper can be when towing the boat & cargo.

Thanks.

look up four wheel camper, unladen they push 900 lbs in the bed, not sure on loaded weight,

my gpa had a 16' bass tracker with the "hawk model" and fire stone bags in the rear. but that was a 1 man band with dog as company. but all things considered, your proly pushing limits if not over loaded with a fairly light slide in and a boat on the tail.

does your bud have the 2.7 payload package? also what does the yellow sticker on the door jamb say < " payload"

I highly doubt the truck will have the payload capacity needed for a slide in. Is it the 157" WB?

Hey, SpeedRacer - Welcome to our campfire.

The answer to your question is Zero. Ford does not approve any slide-in camper for an F-150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. The 2016 Ford RV and Trailer Towing Guide does not even include the 2.7L in the table for max slide-in camper weight. It includes the 3.5L EcoBoost and the 5.0L V8, but not the 2.7L or the non-EcoBoost V6. And the 3.5L EcoBoost and the 5.0L V8 requires the heavy duty payload package (HDPP), which is not available with the 2.7L engine. The 2.7L payload pkg is not the same thing as the HDPP.

So even the lightest weight slide-in camper is not approved by Ford.

Here's the 4-Wheel "shell" camper with an empty weight of almost 1,000 pounds:
http://www.fourwh.com/product/empty-...-truck-camper/

However, even though not approved by Ford, if I had a 2.7L EcoBoost F-150 with the 2.7L Payload pkg and wanted to tow a boat as well as haul a light-weight camper (such as a 4-Wheel Camper), here's what I would do:

1. Load the people and stuff that will be in the F-150 when towing the boat, but without the camper.
2.Tie on the wet and loaded boat and drive to a truck stop that has a CAT scale.
3.Fill up with gas,
4. Weigh the wet and loaded rig on the CAT scale.
5. Add the weights on the front and rear axles of the F-150 to get GVW.
6. Subtract GVW from GVWR of the F-150 to get payload capacity available for the camper.
7. If the answer is at least 1,000 pounds of payload capacity available for a camper, then he can haul an empty 4-Wheel Camper "shell" without being overloaded.

If there is enough payload capacity available for the wet and loaded 4-Wheel camper, then that's your answer. But the F-150 will probably be overloaded if you haul anything in the camper other than a set of sheets and pillows.

But note that when you do things not approved by Ford, then you're in danger of voiding your factory warranty coverage. Be sure your friend understands that.

Toss in a bedrug and have a nice soft bed to sleep in.

Maybe for you young guys. But older folk require a softer bed. So throw in a 2" mattress topper made of high-density foam or memory foam over the bed rug, plus my down pillow, and maybe we can get a decent night's sleep.

The A.R.E. EZLift topper is a pop-up tent shell, basically a take off on the four-wheel camper design. But their website does not include any weight specs, so I don't know what they weigh.

The EZlift Topper looks to me to just be an add-on piece to a fiberglass cap. You get the lift struts and tent material. I can't see it adding more than 50-100lbs over a truck cap, which in my experience is maybe 150-200lbs. So maybe 300lbs total, seems doable to me.
