Tire Recommendations for Towing
Looking for your recommendations / experiences with tire for towing. I've got a 2013 EcoBoost XLT Screw with the towing package. Will be towing a 6000# travel trailer. Would like a tire that provides some off-road traction as well as rated for towing.
Thanks...Tom |
Any E or D rated At, like too at2, bfg Ko2. I took 9500 in to from Tn-Mn with my Ko2s preformed well no troubles

My #1 recommendation is to stay away from off brand garbage and stay with companies like Goodyear, Firestone, BF Goodrich, etc. My recommendation in 275-55/R20 has got to be the Cooper Discoverer AT3. Very high load rating, excellent overall performance and down right nasty looking. http://ca.coopertire.com/Tires/Sport...ERER-A-T3.aspx. This tire remains within the P series but they are a lot tougher than your average tire so you maintain a decent ride and add a little toughness. These tires are also available in LT but like any decent LT they do get expensive.
Most of the 4x4's that I see in the bush today are using P rated tires unless they are really hard core and than they switch to the LT's. |
Have also heard good things about the Cooper AT3.

Seeing that you live in AL, snow is not going to be an issue, my personal top 3 picks are:
Hankook ATM http://www.hankooktire.com/global/li...at-m-rf10.html TOYO Open Country http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/op...-terrain-tires Cooper AT3 http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Light...ERER-A-T3.aspx and now the new ALL WEATHER Cooper ATW http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Light...erer-A-TW.aspx |
I have also had great luck with Firestone Destination AT but the rim sizes are limited.

I had BFGs on my last truck, and they did pretty well. Just a little extra noise, and not quite the mileage I was hoping for (they were done around 40k miles).
My Michelin MS2's have been good also. Great on-road tire, obviously, good on snowy roads, and better off-road (sand, rocks) than I was expecting. |
