Yeah, legally you're probably up the creek without a paddle. There is no way you can modify that pickup with 7,700 GVWR to have 8,200 GVWR. And for that trailer when loaded you need the 8,200 GVWR.

Darling Daughter was in the same boat when she bought her new pickup recently. The huge dealer had zero F-150s in stock with the HD Payload Pkg, and there were none available at other dealerships within 500 miles of her. They tried every trick in the book to get her to accept one with Max Tow but without HD Payload. I had warned her to be certain the window sticker listed the HD Payload pkg, and she listens to her ole Dad. She didn't want to wait 6 weeks or longer to order one, so she found an F-250 in stock that was a suitable substitute. A few weeks later, she and Hubby and barrel-racing 15-year-old daughter all love their F-250 for dragging their horse trailer to the rodeos, and F-250s are available to meet most specs. Theirs is a SuperCab 4x4 shorty (6.5' bed), 6.2L gasser.

Her horse trailer has a GVWR of 7,000 pounds, which will probably overload any F-150 that doesn't have the HD Payload Pkg. Since your trailer is even heavier, then you're probably going to be overloaded when the trailer is loaded if you can't get the dealer to upgrade you to a pickup with more GVWR.

What people need to remember is to go over every detail of the truck they are purchasing before signing the paperwork and taking possession.

Points taken, and APPRECIATED, but in response to your questions:

The window sticker and contracts that we signed, did not list all features. Tire and wheel sizes for instance, hence, it was reasonable to assume that the heavy-duty payload package could be one of those features also not normally listed. I cannot be expected to know the inner workings of Ford's operating procedures, after all.

The absence of the payload package on the window sticker, however, is what prompted me to emphasize AGAIN (I had stated to our salesmen from the start) that I needed both the Max Tow Pkg and the HD Payload Pkg, and I was assured that this vehicle did have both. In addition, another salesman stated that the HDPP is included in the MTTP. Our salesman has admitted that he does remember my stating that and has accepted the blame for not assuring that we did indeed have that option on this vehicle. We didn't make accusations, he willingly acknowledged it was his fault. (I think he is a good and decent man, and I really hope that he does not suffer any repercussions from this)

And, since I had repeatedly been told that the vehicle DID have the Payload Package, I decided to trust that: 1) they knew what they were talking about (probably a lot more than me, since they were the "experts"); and 2) that they would not stake their dealership's reputation (that of selling more Ford trucks than any other Ford dealership in the world) on a mistruth. They knew that we were repeat customers as well, so if we walked away unsatisfied, it would cost them our future business, word of mouth business, Better Business Bureau complaints, possible lawsuit, etc. I would like to believe that most people realize that there are more important things than a commission check, like job security maybe?

And, truth be told, I was also probably hesitant to push the issue because when men do that, they are astute businessmen, but when a woman does that, she is a demanding, controlling, b*tch. Apparently, we are all dumb blondes too, because when the service manager called me to try to talk me into the airbags, some of his first words were, "let me see if I can put this in terms you can understand." Pulleeeze.

So far, they are working with us to make this right. It may entail ordering a new one, if they don't find what we want already on a lot.

This!

I'm in technology sales and always make sure a customer reviews any configuration before it is purchased. Once the deal is done, its too late to make changes regardless who missed something.

I don't understand what a lawsuit would do here. This part of society bugs the crap out of me. Everyone is looking for free money from a mistake. You agreed on the truck and signed the papers. I cannot believe that you signed a contract that does not have every little detail listed on it.

You are lucky that they dealer is willing to work with you. I never trust what a salesman tells me. I have dealt with a fair amount of car sales men that don't even realize that vehicles have 4 wheels on them. I know the facts before making a purchase and confirm the details. I have a similar gripe with "Unfair mortgage lending procedures". I'll save that Soap Box for another day.

When I bought my F150 the salesman told me that the traction control button on the dash would "Add more control if I need it". I was lucky this guy knew how to turn on the radio.

Salesman is back to work today, had day off yesterday. He told my husband that when you order the heavy duty payload package, that you lose the ability to have the chrome package included and that they put grey painted service truck rims on the vehicle. I have the brochure and they are not like he is portraying them at all. And, they don't have ANY trucks meeting our criteria in the entire Ford system. They would have to build and they are estimating delivery at 10 weeks out. I'm sure they are trying to push us into a 3/4 ton or to just go with what we have. Neither is acceptable. Still just sick over this. Not sure what to do at this point.

Thank you, MixMaster. Never considered a lawsuit. That is not my style. Don't expect anything for free either. So you can get off your soapbox.

The window sticker lists every option on the vehicle including tire size and all features. Even dealer added accessories have to be shown on a separate sticker.
