These are more designed for carrying a load in the bed or a trailer on the hitch, so the back end does not sag. I think shocks are what will help with pot holes, that or some beefier tires with some more side wall! Or dodge them!!!

Installed without the spacer they should be off the axle so it would ride stock. If the spacer is installed and it touches the axle tube, then you will feel the potholes and bumps more. been there, done that.

This thread just came back up and I realized I never reported on my 3,000 mile trip with my travel trailer last year. With ~1,000 pounds of tongue weight and 1,200 - 1,300 pounds in the truck and a WDH, I used the 1,500 pound sumos with the spacers. Towed like a dream. Rear end was perfectly behaved. Like the rear suspension with the sumos was designed for exactly that load. I normally don't use the spacers for a softer ride when empty. I only add the spacers if I'm doing long distance towing or have very high tongue weight just because I figure it will help the rear springs last longer. I've also towed heavy without the spacers and it's very well behaved - just sits a little lower in the back.

So you notice the difference with and without the spacers loaded?

I cannot discern if there is a difference in feel when loaded - spacer vs no spacer. Just a difference in ride height of about 3/4" with a heavy load. I'd say use whichever results in a flatter trailer with a properly adjusted WDH.

So for fiver with 1800 pound pin, go with the 1500# sumo, or the Timbrens?

From what I can tell, the 1000# ones are good for towing with a bumper pull, the 1500# ones are better suited to direct on the axle loads such as the 5th wheel. I got 1500# ones as I tend to over do things. They were a little too stiff for what I was towing and should have got the 1000# ones instead. For your case, 1800 # warrant the 1500# ones.

As Acdii said for bumper pull the 1000# would be fine but I would do 1500# on a fiver. The 1500# are excessive for my trailer and hardly do anything once the WDH is on.
....never used Timbrens so no comment.

When I had the 1500 on my last truck I was stupid and also had the spacers on. I felt EVERY crack in the road. So make sure there is a gap when you install them.

It’s funny really. The more I research it, the further away I get from a decision.
I like Timbrens / Sumo for their simplicity and form and price factor.
The RAS Roadmaster has lots of raves, but they lift the *** up higher, and it’s already high as HDPPs seem to be higher from that extra spring in the pack from the factory.
Bottom line, they will all prolly be acceptable for my needs. 98% of the time will NOT be towing, lending a nod to the rubber donuts.
