Default Some low life stole my trailer spare tire cover- are they necessary?

Hey guys so was camping with my trailer and some low life decided to wait until I was gone and stole my spare tire cover from the back of my trailer. It was a cool looking tire cover.. but are these tire covers even necessary? Do they protect from rocks/the elements or are they just for show? Wanna ask before I spend $25.

They protect the tire from sunlight which damages it.

Good to know. Have insurance for my trailer through Geico. Almost feels silly calling about a tire cover but pretty pissed about this being stolen. Just the principle of it... hate when some scumbag takes something that isn't his. Was likely someone in the campground since they seemed to wait until i was gone.

Whatever you do, do not put a claim on your insurance for $25. It’s an unnecessary mark against your insurance record. Just go on amazon, buy a new one, and be done. Nothing fancy this time!

Think I'll get a gold plated tire cover encrusted with diamonds.

I stick to basic black. Goes with anything and is so common nobody wants it.

Positive. I was camping and it was there in the morning. Left around 9AM, came back around 3:30PM and it was gone. It was a cool-looking tire cover that came with my trailer so can understand why some low life piece of garbage would want to steal it. Still pisses me off to have something stolen from me though. Got hitched up and left the next day. Really wish they would have tried it while I was still around.

Not necessary at all while on an RV trip. But when parked in the sun in a storage lot, they protect the tire from UV sunlight, which slowly but surely eats the "rubber" of the tire, thus slowly weakening the tire.

So you want to protect the trailer tires from UV sunlight, both the tires on the ground and the spare tire, when parked in the sun for weeks at a time.

Here's a tire cover for the tandem trailer tires on the ground:

And here's a cheap cover for the spare tire.

You might try calling your local RV center now you have descriptions of them. Of three near me I know the one is always competitive on price and I can have what I need in less than an hour.
