They would say a VW beetle could tow it to get the sale.

And the hitch appears to be attached to the rain gutters!

So much ignorance in this thread, how bout some of y'all look at the year model brochure of your truck, 5th wheel towing is specified and is actually safer if within weight/load ratings which are EXACTLY the same if you were pulling by the hitch except the fact you don't need a weight distributing assembly due to the tongue weight (so to speak) is directly over the rear axle.
Example from my year model truck.
(2) Vehicles equipped with 5.5' box will accept a 5th-wheel hitch, but current 5th-wheel trailer designs are not compatible with these models (133" wb. SuperCab and 145" wb. Crew Cab).

Except I would bet money that 90% of the trucks half tons pulling a 5er are over the Trucks payload, you know that number that isn't listed in your Bible, I mean towing guide. HDPP trucks are fine, you will run out of towing capacity first, but when you have a 1800lb MAYBE, payload and a 1500lb Dry pin weight there isn't much room. But we're just a bunch of ignorant idiots right lol.

IF is the biggest 2 letter word in the English language. In theory you are correct, but most 5th wheel trailers are much heavier than traditional trailers. You don't see many 5th wheel trailers that can be pulled by typical 1/2 tons There are a lot more options for conventional travel trailers with well under 1000 lbs tongue weight. Yes there are 1/2 tons that will tow them, and do it safely. But they aren't common.

If Ford puts in print that it's acceptable who are you or anyone else to argue, I can't tell how much a trailer weighs towing or load on the truck by just looking at it any more than anyone else. If someones pulling a 5th wheel that's in spec according to Ford and has an accident as direct result guess who's footing that bill?
End of discussion.
