Default Required Equipment? How much can it tow?

2017 F-150 XLT 4WD SCREW 2.7 3.55 145"WB

According to the Trailer Towing Selector Giude, it appears this vehicle has a maximum loaded trailer weight of 7,600lbs (with weight distribution hitch).

Yet, on a following page of the guide there is a paragraph regarding;
Requided Equipment
F-150
For trailers over 5,000 pounds - Trailer Tow Package or Max Trailer Tow Package

Ford Etis says this vehicle has Medium Duty Trailer Towing and also has Trailer Towing Package (53B) Wire Harness, (Class 4 IV Trailer) Hitch Receiver, Smart Trailer Tow Connector (included in XLT 302 Eq Group).

Help settle a disagreement, how much can this vehicle tow? Is it 5,000 lbs or is it 7,600 lbs?

7600lbs if all other parameters are within specification:

-GAWR
-GCWR
-Payload capacity
-frontal area
-Weight distributing hitch used

Any of these can reduce the capacity.

assuming you don't exceed the structural ratings (GVWR, GCWR, GFAWR, GRAWR) Then I'd say 7600# as long as you use a WDH.

Thank you for your responses. I'm still confused. What does the 'required equipment' apply to then? This vehicle does not have a 'tow package'... it has a wiring harness, a hitch and a smart connector..., no upgraded front stabilizer bar, no auxiliary transmission oil cooler, and no engine oil cooler...
Just trying to get this right!

Yes, I have the right line; 2.7, 3.55, only number in that row is 7,600 (under Screw, 4x4, 145"WB...

The 'Required Equipment' I was referring to is on the 4th page...

5,000 pounds.

More than 5,000 pounds requires a tow pkg, and you don't have a tow pkg. You have 53B which is just a receiver hitch and trailer wiring. The towing pkg 53A includes the auxiliary oil-to-air (OTA) tranny cooler and was a $995 option on your truck, but someone decided to keep the price of the truck down so they didn't order it for your truck. So you don't have a tranny cooler or the other bits and pieces that were part of the 53A towing pkg.

The max tow pkg requires the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, and you don't have that engine so you cannot have max tow.

Your F-150 will probably PULL a 7,600 pound trailer over hill and dale, but without the tow pkg you'll probably burn up the tranny at an early date.
