Rear shock suspension - 2003
IN YOUR HUMBLE OPINION,
WHAT IS THE BEST REAR SUSPENSION FOR MY 2003 F-150 4x4 XLT LARIAT WITH A TRITON 5.4?
IF YOU ARE ABLE, PLEASE LIST THE PROs AND CONs OF THE DIFFERENT TYPE OF SHOCKS?
FYI - I AM A GENERAL CONTRACTOR THAT TWICE WEEKLY, I HAUL 1000 POUND LOADS. I HAVE DRIVEN OVER 14000 HIGHWAY MILES THE PAST 14 MONTHS.
THANK YOU,
CARPENTER

Hi, Ray, and welcome to our campfire.
Monroe makes good shocks, and the load leveler is a good one for your use.

Your topic title is rear suspension, and the Monroe Load Levelers are for the rear suspension only. For the front suspension, the Monroe Gas Magnum is a good match for the Load Levelers in the rear.
Way back when, after about 50,000 miles on the Gas Magnums on an F-250 diesel, I replaced them with Bilstein shocks and could tell no difference. The new Bilsteins were no different in ride and handling than those well-worn Monroe Gas Magnums. So today, I would replace the front shocks with either the Bilstins or the Gas Magnums. The Gas Magnums are probably a hair less expensive than the Bilsteins.
I order my shocks from an online discount source such as ShockWarehouse, then pay my local Midas Man to install them. So far it's worked out fine. Right now I have Bilsteins all around on my F-150. Note that the front shocks on my 2012 F-150 are inside the coil springs, so they're actually struts instead of shocks. The Midas Man charged a bit more to replace the front shocks inside the coil springs than he would have charged to install ordinary front shocks.
