Do what ever you want Ron. It’s no differently than installing an aftermarket receiver rated for 1500lbs, it still doesn’t change the rating on the truck.

I've never seen a published rating for the truck, only for the receiver.

That indicates the maximum it can be, and also I would be willing to bet you will find more than one part number for said receiver. The max tow has always been listed as having a reinforced bumper. The hitch is part of the bumper assembly on these trucks so a higher rating for the ones on a max tow truck makes sense.

So my specific question is... On my 2018 F150 HDPP with max tow my receiver sticker says 12,200 / 1,220. I've seen other 2018 F150s with HDPP and max tow that have the 13,200 / 1,320 sticker on the receiver. Is my receiver the same and just has a different sticker? It has Max tow so it should have the max tow receiver right?

BTW, this discussion is completely academic for me. I have no trailer that I ever run over 1,000 pounds of tongue weight on and have no intentions of up scaling anything, ever. My next move will be to downsize once kids are out.

Without looking at it, I would say most likely yes if you have max tow package. Although like many things Ford does there is no definitive answer, they could have two or more suppliers making the same part and rating it differently, that both meet Ford's specs.

Jim, were your CAT scale weights with WD connected or not?

Not looking to imply anything. However, I do recommend that if you go with a fifth wheel, you make 100% certain that the installation is to the frame. Here is an example of not mounted correctly, speed and inexperience (Not an F-150)...

I told you my 2018 HDPP's receiver sticker was 1320 # in another thread late last yr. and you were confused as to why yours was 1220 #. Here's my guess: my truck was built after yours, and Ford was using up the Max Tow bumpers (hitch receivers) left over from 2017 m/y that was installed in your early 2018 m/y build. 12200 # was the maximum conv. trailer wt. in any configuration, so all max tows got this part/sticker in 2017. When Ford qualified for 13, 200 # towing (w/ 20" wheels), they had to upgrade their receiver sticker to show it could, in fact, take that 10% tongue load of 1320#. If the bumper p/n's are different between 2017 mat tow and 2018 max tow, my guess is that it's only the sticker p/n that's different on the whole assembly.
