Default Question Trailer back-up lights always blow a fuse after launching my boat?

I just recently got my new 16 EB. Pulled the boat today with it for the first time and the back-up lights on trailer worked fine until the trailer hit the water. Now they will not work. What could be causing the water to short them out and blow the fuse? Bad connection somewhere? Same thing happened on my old truck twice.

BTW it handled the boat great!!!

Unplug the trailer lights from your truck before backing into the water.

This ^^^^.

What's happening is that water is hitting some connection and shorting it out. Unless you have sealed trailer lights and perfect wiring, always unhook the connection before submerging the trailer.

I always thought that it was a common practice to unplug the lights before going into the water.
Even if you do not blow a fuse, most bulb types will break due to thermal shock when they hit the water (if not water proof). If they have been on and hot. Only takes the bulbs a short on time to get very hot.

^^^ agreed

even with sealed lights, hot bulbs and cold water do not mix well. Best to always disconnect wiring prior to backing into the water.

Checked all my connections up front and everything looked fine. Took out the lights themselves in the back and found 1 had the hot wire rubbed raw. It seems the wire was too short from the factory and was tight against the trailer. Lengthened it some and now everything works. Now I have to get a mini fuse at the auto parts store.

Thanks for everyone's help!

I never unhook my lights when backing in. Probably should but it makes it hard to line up at night.

My rig hooked up.

One more thing I would add, is to coat the connection end of bulb with a thin layer of grease to prevent water corrosion in the socket.

606EB - that's a good looking combo you have there.
Colors even match.
