Question - 2013 5.0L tow experiences....
 

This year I bought a 2013 5.0L XLT 2WD w/tow package, with the plan of buying a new travel trailer (currently own a 20' TT weighing in at 3500 pounds) sometime soon. I'm more interested in a TT that weighs in around 5-6K pounds, but of course my wife & daughters like all the ones that weigh closer to 7K pounds. My F150 is rated to tow a max of 7900 pounds, but I'm not crazy about approaching maximums. My question, finally, are there any other 5.0L owners towing in the 5-7K range and what are your thoughts & experiences? Thank you.

What r yours specs? I.e. what rear end proly 3.55 and what's the payload(yellow sticker on door jamb) that wood help in answering, I have an 11 fx4 5.0 but have 373 gears all around so my cap is 9300# but my payload is only 1246# so I'm going to load my trailer more then truck but I haven't pulled more then 3 dirtbike plus riders an gear.

My rear end ratio is 3.31, I don't have a TT yellow sticker weight yet, as this is just a query on others experiences pulling a TT nearing 7K pounds. Thank you.

From memory I believe my truck is rated for 9800 - I have the tow package with 3.73 rear and the most I have towed so far is roughly 6000. It handled very well and I tow a lot in the mountains. The 6 spd transmission is your friend. I am sure you know that with your trailer loaded up (propane, water, gear etc) you are towing a lot more weight than the trailer so I would not want to max out your weight on just the trailer.

I would look into swapping out the rearend gears to 3.73's. It wouldn't be to expensive considering you have a 2wd. The 5.0 likes to get up into the higher rpms where it is comfortable and makes it's power. towing 6000+lbs with 3.31 gears would not be very pleasant..

There is a yellow sticker on the inside of your drivers door jam that will give you your available payload. If you changed the gears and have a decent amount of payload a 6000lb trailer isn't out of the question..

I think he was asking what was on the truck sticker, not the trailer plate.
That puny little #, that likely begins with a "1", Max Payload, is likely your limiting factor.

I have a 2013 XLT SuperCrew with the 5.0 and 3.55 gears. So I am rated around 7900-8000 like you. My boat/trailer and gear weighs in close to 6,000lbs. I have no problems with it. Love the truck!

Towing and pulling will be no problem. The ride, handling and control may make you yearn for a bigger truck.
I towed an apprx. 6200 lb 30 foot TT for 2 years.
The truck does very well on good roads. Rough and windy roads are tiring. I installed Bilstein HD shocks and helper springs on the rear and it made a nice difference.
IMO, an F150 is good for towing a TT up to 6000 lbs. More than that and I'd go to an F250 or F350 to get the payload needed for tongue weight and gear.
I am going to buy an F350 to pull a 34 foot 10,000 lb GVWR weight TT.
