according to the ford fleet options weight pdf , the tailgate step weighs 40 pounds. Doesn't look like it adds that much weight but those are fords numbers!!!

man, its tempting to look at a new F150. My 09 Silverado only has 1500ish payload. It pulls my 30ft travel trailer okish. I've set it up on scales so I know im within my limits, but you know the trailer is there for sure. My step up choice is a 3/4 truck...but man, the payload and towing numbers of the F150 have me second guessing myself.

If you could spec an HDPP truck the same as yours it would have ~800 lbs more payload. 7050 lb GVWR vs 7850. Since you cannot spec above 500A on a Lariat HDPP its hard to compare apples to apples.

I googled " ford fleet options weight pdf " and got https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...load_SB_v5.pdf I added 2017 to the search, crickets, I should be able to do fine with 2016 weights even though it will be an order for 2018. Can anyone expand on why no 2017/18 specs, or am i still a pc idiot ? my goal would be as much "luxury"( dont want BLISS, etc.) and 2000 lb or near payload in the smaller F150 size truck.

You are not going to get 2000+ lbs of payload in a supercrew 4x4 without getting a no option XL or stepping up to an HDPP truck. The maximum payload for a 4x4 screw non-HDPP is 2030 lbs.

If you want luxury, then the HDPP will only really get you half way there. You can get leather in the Lariat but you are stuck at the 500A so you wont get all the upscale stuff from 501 or 502A.

If you want the goodies, like 360* camera, blis, etc and a huge payload, only the F350 qualifies.

I’ve got a ‘16 4x4 500A Screw hdpp w/ the 3.5. Bench front seat, spray in liner, back up sonar, tailgate step, running boards, bed side step, nav, fx4, max tow, 36 gal pretty much everything but remote start you can add to the 500A. I want to say it came in at 2250 payload. You can search my old posts to confirm it.

Hope that helps. I was expecting slightly higher using the whole 7000# to 7800# gvwr comparisons of things on the lot. I did not take into account that the truck frame itself is heavier which correlates to what I ended up with.

2250 is still kinda low but yours is pretty well optioned. The frame and axles are heavier so you dont recoup that full 800 lbs susggested by the GVWR. It looks like you may only pick up ~600 seeing as the max payload for the non-HD truck is 2030 lbs and the HDPP is 2620.

Yes you can. When I was shopping for my current truck, I test drove a 15 F250 Powerstroke, and one of the things that stuck out was the low payload. I then drove a 17 XLT 5.0 Screw 4x4, 301a with tow package and 36 gallon tank. It had a higher payload than the F250. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the F250 was 2000 something, and the F150 was higher. It was a Sport optioned truck too with center console shift, which is why I drove it, but didn't like the seats.

I will be installing a pop up all terrain camper on a Scab, comes in at 1600 lbs loaded to travel. I think 2000 lbs payload would carry it well enough. I can say for sure it was not a good feeling loaded on the FX 4 max out. Also giving up heat/cool leather is a big deal. I added a custom Deaver spring pack and it was great, but then became dedicated to camper as the empty ride was brutal. I’m trying to avoid that.
Thank you for the input. !
