Default Our new TT!

Part two of our retirement preparation is now complete - the new & improved travelin' trailer has been purchased! Our current TT (a Jayco 19H) was just not going to work for the places we want to go so we've been looking for the right trailer. After a couple months of research we had it narrowed down to a handful of possibilities. Last Saturday we went to a dealer that had 3 of the top 5 on their lot. After checking them out we decided that the Salem Cruise Lite 210RBXL was the one we wanted. We haggled for a couple hours and walked out new owners.

We go pick the trailer up Saturday and besides bragging about buying something new I wanted to thank everyone who contributes to the forum - it helped us in a lot of our decisions. So here's the things a lot of folks on this forum care about - UVW 4778# (sticker on the trailer was about 20# over this) GVWR 7540# hitch weight (dry) 540#

We have weighed out the gear we carry in our old TT and it is less than 1000# so even if we pork up for longer trips I doubt we'll see a loaded weight much above 6000# which should give us a tongue weight of 780#. That added to the shiny new Blue Ox's 90#, me, the DW, the fur ***** and some gear we will still have 100# plus of capacity over the door sticker. YAAA us! Just for the record, I will be hitting the scales before we get too far along but for now, I think we are right there where we want to be.

I know there are longer TT's out there that weigh less or have a lesser tongue weight but I'm going to say when I see somebody say they are buying a 28' TT I get pretty skeptical as to whether they are within the cargo capacity for their rig. At the dealer, they never asked or looked at the cargo capacity - just looked in the Ford info for towing capacity for my configuration of truck (9500#). As you can see from my numbers, my truck could never handle a trailer that large as far as cargo capacity. OK, I'll climb off the soap box now...

Congrats and good luck. Sounds like you did your homework. Post some pictures when you can, inside and out.

We go to the dealer Saturday morning so by the time we get home (dealer is 100 miles away) it will be a bit late to head out (not quite retired yet!) We have a reservation at a local campground for the next weekend so this weekend we'll just play with it in the driveway!

Well, the new TT is home and in the driveway - time to start putting our camping life back together in it. The pick up and trip home went very smoothly. Because I bought the SwayPro on Amazon and brought it with me, they wouldn't install it but I did my homework and it probably took me less than an hour to do the install and leveling of the truck. The trip home was uneventful (that's what we like!) and honestly, the new TT towed no different from the old one which was roughly 1000#'s lighter.

We spent Saturday afternoon and this morning checking out storage space and figuring out what we will be doing with our stuff in regards to what goes where. I was sort of surprised at the lack of "attention to detail"I found throughout the TT. We found some things at the dealer and they fixed them on the spot but other things I found at home - e.g. - the LED strip that goes over the slide out was not attached to the wall, one clearance light lens/cover fell off on the trip home, one tail light was not fastened to the trailer properly. Probably one of the more surprising ones came when I opened one of the close out panels (next to the electrical panel). Inside this cubby with the mass of wires for the inverter and all the exposed circuitry was a LOT of aluminum chips and wood chips. I'm in aerospace and for us this would be considered FOD - a real big deal. I would guess if some of the aluminum chips found there way onto the circuit board or between a connection wire we'd have a nice short. I call this bad workmanship...

Other than that, we fare very happy with the TT. This isn't a Rolls Royce so I don't expect gold plated fixtures and wool rigs so we are good with the level of trim it has. We have our maiden voyage set for a couple weeks from now and we'll see if any bugs pop up. One thing we know we will be upgrading is the cheesy mattress - probably going to get some sort of memory foam mattress.

Here's some pics from the driveway at home...
