Seriously, an XLT Scab 4x4 with 6.5 bed should get you well north of 1700# payload if you don't crazy with options. If you want a nice cushion for now and room to grow get an HDPP. You won't look back.

Appreciate all the replies and opinions. I particularly like the F350 and above suggestions...go big.
The HDPP and Max Tow seems like a unicorn; I've never seen one in real life unless it's owned and was special ordered.

Order the heavy duty payload package (HDPP), and max tow package. That means you have to order the 3.5L EcoBoost engine required to get max tow. To get HDPP, you must also order the "long" bed (6.5' on SuperCrew or 8' on SuperCab or regular cab).
You're in Illinois, so you cannot order Lariat or fancier trim with HDPP on a 2019-up F-150 the way the Canuks can. So study the specs for the XLT 301A trim package and see if that's good enough for you and your significant other. If not, then buy an F-250 or F-350 SRW with any trim plg you desire, and be happy.
I was in somewhat the same boat last year when I ordered my 2019 F-150. DW insisted on Lariat or fancier trim, so HDPP was out. I didn't really need HDPP but I wanted it for contingencies. I love my F-150 the way it is for my needs, but I wish Ford still allowed Lariat trim with HDPP in the USA. (2018 was the last year you could get HDPP with Lariat trim in the USA.)

IMO: Downgrade to the Lariat and ditch the pano roof and fancy seats. That change will give you a couple hundred pounds of payload. A 502 lariat will be almost identically equipped to the Platinum. If you want to get really serious put the truck spare in the camper for another fifty or so pounds.

Agreed. Went from a '11 EcoBoost Screw 4wd to a '16 6.2 F250 Screw 4wd. Towing is a night and day difference. My trailer weighs 7500 loaded and the F250 feels extremely better "planted" on the road.
For the payload, I went from an overloaded F150 with 1529 payload to 2766 in the F250.
