Default OEM Trailer Brake Install Question

New Member Question. I am ordering the OEM brake controller system.

It will arrive on Friday late, but I wanted to use it Saturday morning.

Can I have the computer "flashed" BEFORE I install my actual brake module?

UPS delivery leaves little time for a dealer visit on Friday

Thanks

I don't believe the system can be programmed until it is installed. It needs to be able to recognize the parts.

Install the controller, relay and fuse... then have it flashed. I had mine flashed at the dealership on my old 2009 while at my truck was in for the routine maintenance agreement service at 35,000 miles, then did it for free. Take literally 5 minutes.

OK... she is installed and ready to flash.... after I installed it there was NO indication that it had been added.... Am I to assume that this is normal before the flash?

Thanks for all replies

Yes totally normal, it won't be recognized until it is flashed.

Does your truck already have the 7-pin plug and a hitch ?

Nice - it should be a simple install for them.

My truck didn't have the trailer towing package, so I had a harness to buy, and a couple of wires to run. I love the OEM controller.

I installed the dash component myself. It was easy. Anyone who is doing it in the future needs to not only cut the tape holding the dash plug in place - but also follow it to the next mounting point and remove it there too in order to get the needed length.

The dash is nice and smooth... I set the gain at 6- and let it go to work... it is great!
