On a side note, I wish my 2012 detected a trailer with the 4 pin connector, assuming it will also turn off the reverse sensors.
OP, if you can figure out which circuit the truck uses to detect the trailer, then you might can bypass it, but may lose some function(s) on the light. I think your best option will be to wire a pigtail into a taillight as suggested.

From the looks of the photo the light is not Red or Amber and it is on the rear of your vehicle. That makes it NOT legal to start with.
The only legal lights that can be displayed on the rear of a vehicle are RED & AMBER.
White for reverse only.

There are some that just keep clearing the warnings and drive.
Because your light only has a tail light and brake light, the truck thinks you have faulty lights.
You might try modifying this guy's wiring to make it work for you.
