A lower spec truck, especially XLT or Lariat with few options will have a better payload, and a Heavy Duty Payload package will have even better. I have a crew cab XLT with a 6 1/2 foot bed and the Heavy Duty Payload package and it has 2250 payload. It took me over a year to find it though, and had to drive 4 1/2 hours one way to purchase it.

That's what this truck is, an XLT so don't understand why its payload is so low. Air bags don't increase the payload at all?

No, they do not. You CANNOT increase payload.

Nope. Air bags can mask the symptoms of being overloaded (headlights aiming at the stars, rear end sagging) but they don't increase GVWR. Payload capacity is GVWR minus the weight of the truck. Since you cannot increase the GVWR of the truck, the only way to increase payload capacity is to reduce the weight of the truck.

Or buy a heavier-duty truck. Ford makes them. If an F-150 is not enough, they make the F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-650 and F-750. Ford no longer offers a Class 8 truck; they sold the Ford 8000 and 9000 truck production to Freightliner back in 1998. But rumor has it that Ford may be thinking about getting back into the class 8 wars again.

this salesman is absolutely incorrect. Run from this deal and the dealership.

If you want to carry a pair of ATV's and tow a TT, you're going to need a 250/350. I mention the 350 because they cost a few hundred dollars more than a 250 and have nearly twice the payload capacity. Ride quality is the same as a 250.
As far as the weight of the ATV's, I really doubt the pair only weighs 650#. I'd bet more like 900 or more.
Maybe you should take that text screen shot to the GM of the dealership. He might make you a good deal on a Superduty.

So I weighed the truck and it weighs 6040 with me in it, so with he gvwr being 7350 I have another 1310 I can load in it correct? Even though the payload sticker shows 1371 total, I weigh 200lbs...
