"Should" is the operative word. But an RV salesman is going to try to sell you the hitch on which they can make the most profit. And that's usually a cheap hitch with friction sway bars instead of a Strait-Line, SwayPro or Equai-I-Zer.

So insist on a high-end but affordable hitch, and have the RV seller install and properly adjust the hitch. If they try to sell you a hitch that has friction sway bars, you'll know they don't have your best interest at heart.

Don't sweat having a cheap WD hitch. The first time you mess up your britches because of unexpected severe trailer sway, you can throw away that cheap hitch and replace it with one of the high-end but affordable hitches mentioned in this thread.

I just hope you don't have more problems than dirty shorts because of trying to get by with a cheap hitch.

I've had the stuff scared out of me because of severe trailer sway, so that's why the hitch on my TT is the extremely-high-end but not very affordable for most folks ProPride 3P. However I "get by" with the Reese Strait-Line on my cargo trailer.

I still have a "sway bar" in the barn, used on a utility trailer for 11 years 2000 thru 2010 for hauling a golf cart, generator and extra gasoline behind the fifth-wheel when boondocking at Texas Motor Speedway's so-called RV campground. Without that sway bar, every time the 5er did a small swerve, the utility trailer did a huge sway. So that one sway bar was adequate to control that trailer

Default Sway bars

Got two sway bars. 2 minutes to take on/off. Sway is nil. Been driving with a trailer for 10 years...

Popped for the Blue Ox w/1000lb. The hitch is your insurance for your new TT. Get more than you need and you'll feel secure in all driving modes. Have it installed by a pro, which means: not Camping World.
