Default My CAT scale results 18 F150 pulling 8940lb Travel Trailer

Well, I have very recently purchased the Propride P3 1400lb WDH. Sean the owner has been very helpful and I thank him very much for that.

I tow a 34' total length 8940lb loaded travel trailer with my 18 F150 Lariat Screw 6.5 bed 3.73 rear axle. My total GVW is 7050. My rear axle rating is 3850lbs and my front axle rating is 3650lbs. Here are my cat scale results. I have distributed as much weight as I can not maxing out my WD jacks.

Wd jacks cranked up to 9.5. Everyone including me is in the truck.

Wd bars cranked up to 9" from the base of the jack. Everybody including me is in the truck.

Truck only including me, wife, and our 80lb dog.

I know my full tongue weight is 1280lbs ehich includes 240lbs more weight from the propride hitch. Before it was 1040lbs. I'm slightly over my rear axle rating by 130lbs with the jacks cranked up to 9.5. I'm over my front axle rating by 10lbs but it's at the same weight unhitched. What do you guys think?? Are these good numbers WD numbers? Thanks in advance.

Since your 600lbs over GVWR I’d start by removing that fiberglass cover on the bed, maybe remove those running boards, drop the truck spare tire and put it in the trailer. On the trailer tongue remove or empty one of the propane bottles or change over to a small pair, maybe relocate the battery rearward.

Yea I was kinda thinking about removing that cover. How much less would a Tri-Fold cover weigh compared to my fiberglass one?? I do have taller propane tanks than my old camper so I have heavier ones. Like you said, maybe I can swap for shorter ones. There's only so much weight to remove. There is many more people that at 1000-1500 over GVW. I knew when I bought that trailer I knew that I'm going to be at or over gvw. I do have airbags but it doesnt legally change my payload. I also have a hellwig sway bar which helps me a lot towing. Relocating that battery wont be a bad idea. I dont know where I would put it.

Wouldn't recommend moving the spare tire. What if the OP travels w/o the trailer, has a flat, then what? Moving the spare from trailer to truck frequently would be a huge PITA.

I have a lot of items in my trailer that I wish were in the truck at times.

So trying do some math by my phone...

Your truck weighs 6680 lbs loaded with only 370 lbs of Payload before you reach your 7050 GVWR with no trailer? There must be LOTS of stuff you can move to the trailer.

The trailer weight 8940lbs with a tongue weight of 1280 with the WDH included.

Your optimal tongue weight can be 12-13% of the loaded trailer weight. That would be 1073-1169 lbs. So you can reduce tongue weight by 100-200 lbs and still be at the recommended safe tongue weight.

Move some stuff away from the tongue but not behind the trailer axles.

Remove the cap and place everything not needed to get to your destination to the trailer axles. What’s in the bed?

Well done on the weights but I think you can get it a bit better. As you knew, you are going to be pushing your limits but I think you can get closer. I’m sure others can correct my numbers if they are off.

Happy camping.

Yes my truck weighs 6680 with no trailer. I have about 10.7% of the tongue weight is on my truck with my weight distribution Jacks up to 9.5". I'm still within the 10-15% of the required tongue weight.

So are you saying I don't have enough tongue weight??

I have some firewood(not much), jumper cables, rubber bedmat, drop in bedliner, ARE fiberglass cap, basketball, and wood divider in my bed.

I wonder how much my cap weighs? How much lighter is a tri fold tonneau cover? I love that fiberglass cap which is why I bought it.

Will bring 300-400lbs over on my rear axle hurt my truck in the long run? That will be 12-13% of tongue weight. There's somebody on here that tows a fifth wheel with the 145" wheelbase that is about 1000-1200lbs over on the rear axle.

I don't have anything in my bed that I can put in my trailer. I was thinking about buying firewood as I go instead of carrying a bunch of it around which is not the case now. It's cheaper buying it outside the campground which is why I buy it and carry it around. It's more expensive buying it at the campground.

I would add an additional washer to the Propride. Get rid of the fiberglass lid

I have the maximum amount of washers in there. The most I can fit is 6 of them. I'm wondering how much does my lid weigh?

I found a tri fold on fb marketplace for $150. I wonder how much lighter it is compared to my ARE?

Here are the pics of the trifold cover
