Default Max weight on the roof of a 14' Super Crew

I'm buying a RTT that weighs 210lbs. I would like to mount it on the roof of the cab via a Thule or Yakima roof top bar system. Sleeping at night there will be a total of 650lbs up there between the 4 of us. Is this feasible? I understood there's a max moving weight and a max stationary weight. How much is it? What is the max distance the bars can be mounted away from each other on a Super Crew. I won't be home for at least 6 weeks or I'd measure myself Has anyone else done this? I don't think a cap can hold that much weight. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have always used Yakima bicycle hitch mounts, roof racks, and cargo boxes. Their catalog and website always used to show maximum weight for roof systems. I suspect that the weight limit would be just over 100 pounds. Since I have the same SuperCrew I became curious and went to the Yakima site and couldn't find an answer. I think a call to Yakima support would be in order. I don't expect that a roof-top-tent would be practical on a SuperCrew F150. It seems to me that the roof rack rating for my 2007 Ford Sport Trac was 75 pounds.

I think 650lbs on the roof for a roof top tent is to much. To options I see would be a Trac Rac ladder rack with the roof top tent affixed to that. Or a ARE or LEER fiberglass cap with a cap on the the truck and the RTT attached to that. But you MUST get the cap with the built in aluminum frame for added roof top strength. On the outside it looks like a regular cap but reinforced for loading on the roof. Or you could use the Thule Xsporter rack it you like a open real truck bed. The rack holds 450lbs normally. Since they are adjustable height legs. I have seen the Thule rack lowered as much as possible then place a block of wood under the support to take some of the weight off the bed rails.

Why not use a truck bed tent?

I'm going to have a cap on it and per the manufacturers spec's they'll hold around 400lbs. I'm trying to contact them now as to weather its moving or stationary but I need an alternative if it doesn't work out.

It doesn't really matter it it's moving or stationary. If you are on top and moving it would be the same as if it's a item on the roof with the truck traveling. So when Leer says 400lbs roof capacity. That's the maximum, I wouldn't put over 400 up there. It is a fiberglass top just reinforced with internal aluminum frame.

add a cargo rack over the cap, then mount to it, 4 pins and it comes off

That is what I've been looking at. Found a few different styles. Think I might go with a contractor cap though. Should provide all the strength I need plus I won't need to spend another $800 on something like that. I've found a few of them used around me on craigslist.

Question Did you instal the RTT on your super crew roof?

Hi! We decided to buy a RTT. We have a F-150 2014 super crew. We are not sure how we going to install it. What did you choose? How is the roof holding up with the static weigh, any problems?
