Well, depending on what kind of trailer being pulled, towed, thought about etc. I have an example that might be useful. It is for a Travel Trailer. In my case a Coleman Bunkhouse non slider type. Sleeps 6 or 8, depending on their size, has two large bunks in the rear, 6' x 4', rear bathroom with full tub, refer, sink, stove w/oven, convertible table, Futon style sofa and short queen in the front.

Base truck weights with full tank and just myself.

Front axle
2800
Rear axle
3180
GVWR
5980

The day I picked it up, with just myself and a full tank of gas, no water in any of the tanks, full LP, and nothing else. WDH incorrectly set up too, less than 10% TW.

Front axle
3020
Rear axle
3620
Trailer axles
4480
GCWR
11120

Well within specs of the truck, right?

Loaded up for camping, full FWT empty waste tanks, all our gear and a generator with a 6 gallon gas container. Wife, kids and my mom.

Front axle with WDH
3180
Rear axle with WDH
4300 <-----OVER 4050 GAWR
Trailer axles with WDH
5280
GCWR
12760

GVWR is 7100, Above GVWR is 7480, so I am over by 380#. A second car solved that.

Readings with the WDH disconnected

Front Axle
3000
Rear axle
4560
Trailer axles
5200

So the WDH transferred 180# forward, and 80 pounds rearward. Doesn't do squat though for payload relief!

What I don't have from the above is actual TW of the trailer, so I rigged up a TW scale using a cheap $9 Walmart bathroom scale, a pair of 7' 2x4 screwed together with a mark at every foot, a patio block same thickness as the scale and two foot long pipes. The TW came out to about 680# with an empty FW tank, rough estimate with a full FWT is 704#.
Rough estimate is about 676# of people and things in the truck.

Per specs, the GVWR of the Coleman is 7600# with a hitch weight of 632# The base weight is 4863, and the estimated empty weight of the one I got is 4920. Estimated since I didn't disconnect the bars on the first weigh in, and I am not too sure what the weight transfer was, the front axle weight gained 220# and I know that is not correct, the trailer was nose light on that drive home, IE White Knuckle Fever!

My trucks payload at the time was 1470# and I had an ARE topper on it.

So a 7600# GVWR trailer, with a 1470# Payload truck, with one person and lightly loaded, with about 300# in the bed is what I had. This year will be different since that truck no longer exists, and I have to start over with a 2016, which means having to tear the hitch apart again, get new washers, and reset it all up again, then go weigh it.

As always YMMV.
