Default Shipping/Hauling Motorcycle

Hello everyone ive created this thread because im in a bit of a pickle, I just got an awesome job offer from a company located in mid Indiana. The problem is i live here in Las Vegas and have to figure out a way to get my beloved 1975 Honda CB750k5 over to Indiana. I would really appreciate anyone that has experience with having their bikes shipped to give me some insight. The best ive found so far (cant remember company's name) was 800$ which isnt really awful considering but at that kind of cost im almost half tempted to put about 400 into my baby and ride her over their under her own power which i will do if need be. That being said id really appreciate any leads or information leading to a better price or solution. The move will be taking place around mid January when the shop in indiana starts getting stupid busy if that helps any. Like i said before I would greatly appreciate any and all input, thanks fellow Ford lovers hopefully i will not be shunned for owning and loving some good old fashioned japanese rice.

I've used Federal three times. They've been great - absolutely no problems and their employees who I've seen take posession of and deliver my bikes have been excellent. Federal also gives a pretty good discount for AMA members. Enough of a discount that it would be worth joining AMA if you aren't currently a member.

Ive weighed the pros/cons of shipping vs riding, and i think im going to go ahead and put some money in the ole girl and give it a go.. For one i think it would be an awesome trip and experience, two i would rather put about half of what shipping would cost into the bike and have it ready to go. thirdly i dont like the idea of someone else being responsible for it.
So i think its almost a for sure i will ride unless somone is already heading that way and can take on an extra passenger and moto (driver would obviously be paid for their troubles). Just for ****s and giggles how much was Federal shipping if you dont mind me asking of course?

Dont get me wrong my mind isnt totally made up yet i would still love suggestions but unless it costs 4-5 hundred bucks i wont even consider it really, I know im cheap.. Also for those thinking "why not use the f150" I dont trust a 200,000 mile E4OD to get me across country, not to mention fuel cost would be horendous.

You trust a 35-year-old motorcycle to get you across the frozen plains in the wintertime, but not a 25-year old F-150?

Yeah, the E40D tranny is the weak spot, but replace the torque converter for a coupla hundred bucks before you leave and you should have no problems if you take it easy."Take it easy" does not mean cruising with traffic at 79 MPH on I-10 across Arizona and New Mexico and most of Texas, or 84 MPH on I-10 and I-20 in far west Texas.

Take the southern route via Phoenix and Dallas and Memphis. From Memphis, in the wintertime I don't know whether the eastern route via Nashville and Louisville would be better than the western route via I-55 and I-57 and I-70. Probably the best idea is to carefully check the weather reports and road conditions from Memphis to Indianaplis, then decide.

As far as the cost of Federal hauling it for you, contact them and ask for a quote.

I will have spares and tools to repair anything that wears out on the bike plus have 500 bucks into it total (i can tear that bike apart with 2 monkey wrenche and the tool kit that came from the dealer in 1975 but will have more) will have new Gears/Sprockets, chain plugs, wires, caps, coils, points, condensors 2 extra sets of jets one fatter, one thinner, new tires, tubes, headlight, and fuses with all that replaced i will be more than confident riding it over. I have considered weather and will take the southern route majority of the way and if i freeze my ***** off when i start heading north i will call a good family friend with a trailer or pickup to pick me up if need be.. Thanks to a genius friend on another forum i will also be adding TP to the list of things to bring among other misc things lol. The truck only needs to last my mom one year until she moves to mexico so im not going to put anything into as it will be sold before she leaves anyhow. I can expect about 250 dollars in fuel and food and another 250 for hotels and just in case cash so either 1000$ for having my moto running as good as new and taking me over that way or about the same price to just have it shipped .. I will already have a bmw for my work commute when i get over their so ill only be cold for 3 days lol.

Thanks
Josh
