Towing "Old Man Terry", my 1988 20-foot Resort. Comes in near 5000 lbs loaded (long before ultralight's existed). With no water in the fresh tank up front, no WDH is required.

First 2 pics from last year, last pic from a few weeks ago when I put in 2 new axles with brakes. Tows even more like a dream now! Just got back from a camping trip yesterday.

You're one of the few to tow with the 2.7L instead of the 3.5L, any regrets? Since camper towing is more about aerodynamic drag and less about weight how is your fuel economy?

Thanks

No regrets at all, tows like a dream. I also have the tow and payload packages so my payload is 1622lbs. Depending on wind I get anywhere between 10.5 against the winds to 12.5 on a calm day. I've also towed my 7500 lb boat(+trailer) no problems. I get better mileage with it because it's aerodynamic.

This past weekend I towed it in a really bad wind storm and got 9.5 MPG. I also considered needing a heavier truck, as in, more than a half-ton, because of the sideways pushing (started a new thread on it).

This has only happened twice in a bad storm and in open flatlands. Nothing to do with the 2.7, and would happen with any half-ton pickup.

When not towing, I get fantastic mileage and I'm very happy with the engine.

EDIT: I'm also at 94k on the clock and had no issues other than a dead crankcase pressure sensor that failed a few weeks ago.

Traveling home from our first camping trip with the new truck. (2.7 w/3.55's) It pulled great. No problem with power. I did see 217 trans temp for about 2 minutes on the largest hill on the WV turnpike. Otherwise, the trans temp ran between 200 to 210. I was able to get 9.5 mpg's on the way down and 10.7 coming back by keeping the speed under 65mph for most of the trip home.

Did you add the chrome handles and the chrome Trailer Tow mirror caps to yours? What did that run you? I didn’t think you could get those with the HDPP...
