The 5.4 did well pulling the trailer, even up hills. Here in Idaho with the rolling hills, we have a lot of "grades" to navigate to get anywhere. When we go from Moscow to Riggins ID for white water rafting we have to deal with the Lewiston grade and the Whitebird grade. The Lewiston grade is 6% for 3 miles and 7% for 4 miles. The Whitebird grade is 8 miles of 7% grade on the south side of the summit and 2.5 miles of 6-7% grade on the north side.

Even on these hill climbs, the truck did well. I could maintain about 45mph up the hill with the AC cranked. There were a number of times when i was passing people going up the hill in the left lane. The truck could even get up and go when trying to pass people in passing zones on flat ground. I had the rig up to 80mph once in Montana passing a couple RVs that were going 50 in a 70 for 70 miles. (i have a bit of a lead foot and an issue with riding behind people who cannot maintain a constant speed). We now have a 2013 SCrew with the EcoBoost motor, 3.55 gears, and it does even better. Gets about the same mileage but has way more go.
I like how your truck is black on the oneside and white on the other. Very nice. A different truck coming and going.

So I just dealt my 013 screw 5 litre short box and bought an Eco screw long box max tow with 3.73 gears. My question to those of you that tow a 5er did you have to put air bags or extra leaf, my pin weight will be approx 1500lbs. How do you like the Eco for towing and what about mileage when towing just so I have a rough idea, any input would be appreciated

Air bags would be a good idea, towing with the eco is awesome, that little v6 is a beast, i keep mine locked out of 6th when towing, it leaves the engine right where it should be for the power band. As far as milage, I dont even look at that when towing. But it does get better in 5th rather than 6th, also Im running 305/55/20 mud tires on my truck, so ya, crappy gas milage when towing.

For a 5th wheel, you pin weight is fine. Bags will level you out, not increase the weight rating...despite what you might hear. However, being level is very important as it reduces wear on parts not at their stock operating angles.

The eco feels like a diesel while towing. I don't have to rev out the engine to get all the torque. It's actually the only gas engine I've used that felt good towing. The eco is pretty much in boost all the time towing, boost =more air=more fuel...gas milage is going to be mediocre. Expect anywhere from 10-12, depending on conditions.

My pin weight was listed at 1430 empty and is higher when loaded as all storage is in front. I thought I would need something since my payload was only 1230 but it was good without adding anything. Sat about level or a little higher in rear and I was amazed. Fords are awesome and built for towing and hauling and they Excel at it, a Chevy would've sagged like crazy, lol! As long as you don't have a leveling kit on the truck you should be good.

Have you weighed your fully loaded rig? I'm curious how far over your GVWR you are? Not to chastise you or anything. Just trying to figure out how much I should sweat being over mine by 200 lbs or so based on the trailer I'm looking it.

No I never did and I now have an f350 Platinum 6.7 diesel so I'm good with much to spare. I wouldn't sweat 200 pounds but it can quickly and easily be more than you think when you start loading it up.

That hitch would work perfect for your trailer. I have almost the exact same for my 23 ft. Hybrid. Stays completely level and stable.

That would work. I personally like the Equal-i-zer brand with integrated 4-point sway control. It costs a little bit more, but it works a little better and you don't have to unhook the friction bar when you're backing up.
