It ain't no thang! I think most states require the first one be a 5th, very few allow 2 bumper pulls but some do. I'm thinking about getting some matching rims and low pros for my trailer, what you think? I've hit massive potholes with my truck with no issues. Low pro tires have very strong sidewalls. Higher rated than my stockers! I was skeptical at first how they would work but about 1000 tow miles later they are awesome. 0 problems. longest distance at one time so far is only about 130 miles. Not sure if they run hotter or not on long distance runs but so far I couldn't be happier. Very impressed.

This is from Canada's M.T.O.
Towing More Than One Vehicle

Cars, passenger vans and SUVs are not permitted to tow more than one trailer or one vehicle. Motor homes, trucks, pickup trucks and truck campers are legally permitted to tow two trailers or a trailer and a motor vehicle behind a trailer. However, a three vehicle combination that is swaying excessively, is unstable or has reduced handling capabilities is subject to action by the police as an unsafe combination of vehicles under the Highway Traffic Act.

The maximum length of any combination of vehicles is 23 m (75' 6").

You guys are probably younger than me!!!! I still can't figure out how to post pictures on the forum....either a personl picture or the one of my trailer and F150. Don't use too many tech words in explaining it!!!!

I don't know how accurate that is, but I like how Maryland is landlocked. We can double-tow but can't leave the state.

Using forum app on smartphone is easiest. Otherwise you have to shrink the file size using mspaint or host on another site like photobucket and link them.

The following is a nice presentation, state-by-state. I can't vouch for its accuracy.

http://towingworld.com/towinglaws.cfm

A few states and provinces require 5th wheel on first trailer. (Footnote 43)

Only with fifth-wheel trailer in AZ, IL, MI, MN, MB (maximum length 23 m.), SK and YT.

Fortunately, my range of travel does not include those states.

ok that is cool but I just went to DMV in may of this year and was told all the info I posted. not saying lady was wright or wrong just what I was told. me with a 5' 1/2 foot bed i kind of dropped the idea, just now cheep way of doing a 5th wheel plus hitch plus trailer plus my boat and stay in my weight rating! my ex-father in law used to get pulled over all the time for pulling a trailer and a boat!

You can't double tow out of the state, but with a great amount of inconvenience, you can drop off one trailer before crossing the state line, travel with single trailer to the next "double trailer" state, drop off single trailer, drive back with no trailer to get the dropped off trailer. Etc. Etc.

I don't think anybody in their right mind is going to do that.
It's like you said, Maryland is landlocked with respect to double trailering.
