I was playing around on the keystone forum and the guys with the 40ft raptors all have either semi's or dual axles pulling these guys. Then here comes this guys saying with his airbags everything is completely safe.

His payload is around 2200-2400, this trailer dry pin weight is 3560lbs

Murf it's idiots like this that causes so many to paint all of us 1/2 ton / 5'r guys with the same brush. My combo is SAFE and LEGAL. I went to great pains to ensure that is the case. Then along comes this tool... Argh.

Fully agree. That being said, it is not illegal to tow above limit with passenger (non commercial) vehicle. At least not for us Canadians and pretty sure it's the same for most states. Stupid but true...

Cheers

There is a large number of folks that pull 40ft. fifth wheels with 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. They pull just fine, stop fine. Is the payload overweight? Absolutely. But that is how those trailers are marketed. A semi truck is way overkill, and useless for anything other than pulling the trailer. As far as California is concerned, any trailer with 3 or more axles and over 26,001 pounds needs a non-commercial class A license, however I have never heard of highway patrols giving grief over the tow vehicle.

No there is only one sway controller on there, I think I am going to go to another dealer in London On (can-am) and get them to set it up properly, they are well known for travel trailers and setting them up, it might cost me some $ but it will be worth it not being white knuckled

My good heavens. Can-am is known alright. Known is actually not the word I'd choose .

Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this place as you can get. .

Lest uncle Andy try and convince you to tow a TH 5'r with a mini-cooper.

2012 F150 Platinum Ecoboost 3.73 with Max Tow hauling a 30' Foot KZ MXT Toyhauler. Just finished up a 4800 mile trip from NC out to Utah and Arizona and back. The Ecoboost performed like a charm. Got 8.3 miles to gallon pulling the trailer. Ran Speed limit+ most of the time. Unloaded Weight on the Trailer is around 5800 pounds loaded up we were just under the GVW of 8,800 with a hitch weight of a couple pounds under the 1,100 max on the trailer per CAT scales that we stopped at on our way out. Got into some heavy winds and rain coming back through Oklahoma. The Equalizer hitch performed well. Experienced a little bit of sway but nothing more than when passing a semi. Driving through Arizona and parts of New Mexico with the wind at our back, I was doing 75-80 and would forget I had a trailer behind me at times. Really happy with the truck and the camper. Thanks to many on this forum for helping me get things spec'ed out.
