I thought I would post this here. It's the only thread I subscribe to on this site, which I'm sure is true for many others.

Test drove a F250 diesel pulling my trailer this weekend and WOW what a difference. I expected the hp difference which was awesome but the stability, rear end bouncing and sway was so much better. The trailer just felt much more under control.

I pride myself on spec'ing a trailer within the F150 limits but what a difference with that F250. It really showed what a longer wheelbase and extra weight makes pulling my trailer. I always had trailer sway at about 60-65 with crosswinds (F150 has 10ply's and full psi) and had just blamed it on the crappy trailer tires. The F250 proved me wrong.

I love my F150 but if you're pulling a trailer that's more the 24-26ft long, you should really consider the F250.

Amen brother. It's almost a huge upset to tow with a superduty and then come to the realization of how inadequate the F150 actually is. Granted most F150 owners don't know as they have nothing to compare against. I did an (unplanned) emergency stop in my new F350 while towing my TT recently and OMG what a difference! I had no idea just how badly my F150 was being thrown around until driving a much more capable TV.

You guys aren't helping me at all. I've been looking at getting a 250 diesel SOMEDAY,...but this isn't helping me put that off until I wear out my F150...

Thanks, thanks a bunch.

Question for you guys that went from a 150 to the Superduty, do you still notice the porpoise effect with the trailer and truck? I wish I knew someone with a Superduty so I could take the trailer out with it to be able to do a comparison. I will probably just go right to a F350 so I can be prepared for when we upgrade to a fifth wheel.

Trailer porpoising is inherent with tongue-drawn/bumper-pull trailers. The longer the trailer, and the more tongue weight, the worst the porpoising. Where having “more” truck helps is in having firmer suspension and a more stable pull. What I notice most about moving to a Superduty from an F150, is that the TT continues to move and sway around but the TV is so much more solid. I changed nothing with my hitch setup (simply lowered my WDH shank for the taller height) and the Superduty is unwavered by the trailer. On rougher roads I can see the trailer moving around in the mirrors, but the Superduty is dead solid. With the F150 it was very much the tail wagging the dog syndrome, especially when braking. In my opinion, you can’t have too much truck when towing large trailers, it’s simply not possible. But you can definitely have not enough truck to support the load and that’s when you start encountering problems.

We're pulling a Fuzion 371 toy hauler that grosses out at 16K pounds. We found out that this is too much for a F-250 or 350 SRW to handle. Hitch weight is what kills the SRW 250 and 350's. Anything more then 13K pounds is in one ton dually territory! 8 ft beds are better for the 5th wheels also to avoid hitting the cab on tight turns. Travel trailers over 9K pounds work great with a 250 or 350 SRW.

^Maybe you just need more toys in the rear to balance the weight out?

I think I'll end up balancing out the weight on a F-350 dually...daughter and son in law also have a 30' TT that the F-250 can handle safely. I just wish my family would have informed me earlier of buying a heavy toy hauler and I would have bought a dually instead of my F-150.
