For me, I add a few lbs of air to my Goodyear Wranglers when I tow. Run them around 40 lbs or so, helps take the bounce out of the *** end when hooked up. I also have bags which I run @ 35 lbs. Will be going to Michelin LT's when I get rid of my Goodyears. So, along with this I have Reese dual cam EQ to keep the sway to a minimum. Took a few trips to get things dialed in, happy with my setup

Need new tires for 2012 F-150 Platinum before I head out for a 4,000 mile trip out west in a couple weeks pulling my 30 foot KZ MXT Toyhauler. The stock Pirelli's have 31,000 on them and are at 4/32 tread. I have been happy with tire over all except for mileage. I always pump them up to 44 PSI when I tow the toyhauler 10-12 weekends a year and a couple times a year for extended trips, otherwise I run 38-40 PSI as I use the truck as a daily driver.
I went to Discount Tire the other day and when I mentioned I used the truck to tow they recommended the Cooper H/T Plus for $780 as they are rated as an XL load tire. I had been looking at the Michelin LTX M/S 2 for $1,000. Lots of people like the Michelin and I had them on my previous truck and liked them a lot. However, Michelin is listed as a standard load tire. The cooper tire is rated for 2,833. Michelin is rated for 2,185. My platinum is only rated for payload of 1,700. Will I get better towing performance with the Cooper vs the Michelin? Anyone have any experience with the Cooper H/T Plus. Since this is a picture thread below is my setup during a trip to Florida this past winter.

No. The michelins are perfectly fine enough. Your wheels, axle, and frame can only handle so much weight. Just because coopers are rated for more don't mean squat. The truck will handle what it can. Nothing adds more weight rating to it. Do the coopers have the long warranty like michelins? Just curious.
I have the 10 ply "e" load rated michelins and love them. So much better than goodyear sra stock junkers. I like saving money too, but you usually get what you pay for.
Good luck with whatever tires you decide on!

They make two types, the P (Passenger) and the LT-rated (Light Truck) like I and Whitescrew have. With the LTs, we could pump them up to 80psi (if the wheels could handle that) and get 3085# per tire (LT's are weight rated according to inflation pressure). But that's way more than my truck can handle, and maybe more psi than the wheels can handle, so I just go the 50psi which gives me 2270# per tire.
2270# is not much different from 2185#, but the LTs give me the stiffness I like and perhaps some additional protection against potholes and road debris with the heavier carcass and belts of the LT tire.
But the LT's are not available in the 275/55R20 size, and even if they were, the bigger rim size tires were always a lot more expensive. So I dropped down to 17" rims. Think there are other manufacturer's LTs that will fit the 20" rim.
