I went to a Ford dealer and asked him if it is safe to tow in cruise and tow/haul. I had been towing like that and it just seemed too easy......everything was being done for me. I was advised that using cruise and tow/haul is just fine. "Let the truck do the work".......and it does. With the fully loaded Sunline trailer (maxing around 6,000#) I can maintain 60 mph on Allegheny Mountain on Pa. 'pike........the east side of the mountain is a 7 mile uphill stretch, culminating in a tunnel at the very top. The F150 (in cruise) holds a steady 60 mph with no problem, and comfortably.
Just steer, watch for trucks(lots of them) and check out the foliage occasionally. I love it!!!!!!!

Maybe the new ones are different but if I use cruise the computer holds one gear lower than it needs to. I get much better mileage driving without cruise. At 65 I'll hold 2100rpm, with cruise its the next gear down on the same road. forget the next rpm step.

With my previous trucks, cruise control did bring on lower gears. Going thru the mountains, I would drive manually because the truck was struggling. But I am impressed with how much smarter the cruise seems when towing. Depending on my load, I may lock out sixth gear, but other than that, if conditions allow, I use the cruise while towing.

In my ecoboost I run 6th with the cruise on and it is 60-65mph at 1600-1800 rpm. 11.2 mpg on my last outing...2200 miles from STL to Upper State NY and back. Never saw over 3000 rpm in any gear including a 7% grade for 3 miles.

I never get to go down hill...always pull up hill...it seems anyway.

We are flatlanders around here, not very many hills at all.

Yea, I meant on the pulling side of the hills...of course the engine tries to brake for you going down...especially with cruise and Tow Haul on.

I usually try to start out at the top of the hill by not going too fast. I try to slow down long before I get going too fast.

Yea, the low end torque of the Ecoboost coupled with the Tow/Haul mode of the tranny makes for an awesome combination. Uphill or downhill!

Current 2010 F150 will be upgraded on the 12th of this month to a Supercrew 5.0. The 5.4 did a great job towing, I am anxious to tow with more power.

The 5.0 isn't as good for towing as a 5.4, but your trailer is small so you shouldnt have any problems

My buddy who traded his 5.4 for a 5.0 pulls a loaded construction trailer that is about 6000#'s and he said the 5.0 out performs and out pulls the 5.4 in every aspect.
