you would think that in 2013 with all the technology on the internet it would be so much easier to find verifiable factual information, lol! Some people say those rings can support 10,000 pounds and some say they cant support any, no one has any verifiable supporting information and I cant find out what the studs are rated for to determine if it would really be an issue having lug centric instead of hub centric wheels or not. I dont wanna be the guy that breaks my stuff finding out however, haha!

One way to look at it is heavy trucks (class 8) use hub pilot rims and the studs go through holes a lot bigger than the studs lug nuts have flat washers so load is not on studs at all only on the hub

yes, fair enough. but you are talking tens of thousands of pounds. how much weight can the studs support is my question, and obviously every vehicle is different, and super duty and even heavy dutys have more studs.

Sorry I don't have that I was just saying that the best is to go to the hub studs break with very little movement that is why big trucks changed to hub pilot wish I had the spec on the studs but I would not tow with rims that weren't hub supported in my opinion hope this helps you

Yes that seems to be the general concensus and makes sense to me but some say if you have metal rings it doesn't matter. Super duty guys say they haul with them but obviously the factors can vary greatly which is why I was curious about stud ratings but can't find them. One guy told me the plastic rings can support 10000 pounds but I'm pretty sure he's clueless, lol!

Yes, you're right, it's not easy to get real capacity numbers when talking about non commercial vehicules. The way I see it is play it safe. You don't know the rating, assume it sucks ;-)

Why risking your, and others, safety. You said it yourself, you still have factory wheel and we all know those are hub centric and "safe".

Don't do that! A tongue high trailer will cause it to sway, and being behind the fiver you might not notice it. Keep it a little tongue low, and you will be happier.

Very good, I'll keep it low. I have a monitor back there to see the second trailer. Only reason I wanted to boat nose up a bit if its raining and the boat fills with water. Making it much heavier. But that'd have to be a bad storm.
