Here's my truck pulling my car to a track event last month - the 675 lb tongue weight and a couple hundred lbs of stuff in the bed have the rear end squatting down pretty good and the front jacked up - and I'm over the truck's GVWR:

Below is the same trailer loaded up, with all the tongue weight of the trailer supported by my Trailer Toad and the truck is nice and level. I don't have anything in the bed in this picture, but with the Trailer Toad carrying the tongue weight I have the entire payload capacity available for people and cargo in the cab and bed:

My truck has a very limited payload capacity (1115 lbs on the door sticker; 1020 lbs on the CAT scales with my bed liner and tonneau cover on the truck).

But, with my Trailer Toad I can haul a trailer up to my GCWR of 15,500 lbs.

If I load the truck up to its GVWR of 7200, then subtract that from 15500 and I can pull 8300 lbs. The Trailer Toad weighs 200 lbs, so my max trailer weight would be 8100 lbs.

Actually, with me and my wife and luggage in the cab, and several hundred lbs of tools/spares/track support stuff in the bed, the truck will probably never weigh more than 7000, so an 8300 lb trailer would be right at the limit.

Without the Toad, a 1200 lb tongue weight of an 8000+ lb trailer is greater than my payload capacity, not to mention the 1050 lb hitch rating. But my small used Trailer Toad with a 3500 lb axle can easily handle more than 2000 lbs of tongue weight (the newer largest Toads can handle more than a 4000 lb tongue weight).

Before the Toad I was overweight pulling my trailer at 6200 lbs, however with the Toad, my 6200 lb trailer tows easily and I'm way under all limits.

Here's a shot of our camper and boat, neither are anywhere close to taxing the truck when towing but why chance it right?

I race this 3500# sailboat in a different city in Texas every month. This is the reason I bought "Vang Tow".

How do you launch this?? I'm guessing a crane or something similar has to pick it off the trailer and put it in the water, instead of backing it down a ramp like a regular boat.

And nice looking sailboat btw!

If the marina or yacht club has a crane, that's the easy way. Here at Austin Yacht Club and some others, we ramp-launch it. We back down to the water's edge, chock the trailer, disconnect from truck, pull truck forward, attach a long strap or heavy rope, unchock trailer, back it down until the boat floats! Retrieval is the same process in reverse. It's a PITA, but it works. The little dolly wheel on the trailer tongue helps the trailer roll by itself.
