Lets see some trucks with trailer pics!!!(09+)

It pulls it fine. The trailer w/ car weighs +- 7500 lbs. For the last 10 yrs I've had 3/4 or 1 ton diesel trucks and they obviously tow 7500 lbs very easily. For the FX4 I needed a weight distrubution hitch. So after some research I decided to go with the draw-tite / reese setup along with their dual cam sway control.
With this setup, along with the factory trailer brake controller, and the ecoboost I'm very happy.

2010 F150 4x4 Screw
No, don't have max tow...
No, don't have max tow. This is a 2010 5.4 Screw with the 5.5 bed, 5.55 rear end and basic tow package. It is rated to tow 9600 lbs. The real capability is the weight distribution hitch. Even though the truck will pull 9600, I wouldn't do it without the hitch.

max tow or max payload have 3.73 gear Set's or higher. so who told you the 9600 lbs was what you could tow? hope it wasn't a flipping sales man.
if you look on your door sill buy where the strike is, there's a sticker with the right weaght that your truck can pull safely! and as stated before you must subtract all the gear + riders from that numbers and that your true tow capacity.

You can get the 3.73's without max tow but all you can get with the max tow is the 3.73
I have the max tow and love it. Sure the mpg is probably a little worse but the low end power is what I like when towing.

5.4 SCREW with 3.55 is 9600 according to the manual. Payload and max trailer weight are two totally different things. What you are referring to is payload( in the door). a 7000# trailer will put approx 700-1050# (10-15% of trailer weight) on the truck. So it is possible. Close but still possible and with the limits set by Ford engineers.
