The police are not just running around pulling people over in hopes that they find one overloaded. They are snagging trucks that show obvious signs of trouble. Low rear bumpers, swaying, headlights pointed skyward or maybe an F150 pulling a 40 foot 5th wheel...that sort of stuff, the obvious stuff and even then its not the cops that hand out the tickets its the DOT. The cops may pull you over but its the DOT guys that will do the inspecting/ticketing. The cops can ticket for unsafe load or driving but not overloaded.

This whole registered weight thing has nothing to do with your trucks towing capacity and everything to do with taxes. The heavier the vehicle is the more damage it does to the road way and this is how those repairs are paid for. The worse that you get is a ticket and an order to comply but they will not stop you from driving to your destination.

I know that you are looking at a 5th wheel but I just don't see why. A modern 30 foot fifth wheel is no better than a modern 30 foot bumper hook in terms of room or luxury and a fifth wheel just puts waaay to much weight on the truck.

A lot of people in this forum have said it and now so do I...just because you can do something it does not mean that you should.
