I'm a total newb on towing so be gentle on me.
Alright i just read a closed thread about people being tow wussies with their f150's and was gonna post till i discovered it was a closed thread. I have experience towing but with a 7.3l diesel. I just bought my 93 f150 with the 302/5.0l we have an 18' i believe flatbed and i want to tow 1979 toyota 2wd pickup with it. I am a fairly broke 23 year old guy so i don't want to be hauling more than this truck should comfortably haul. Just want some advice on all things related to me hauling that combo or a 16' enclosed trailer maybe to help friends move or what not. Any info is helpful.

Does the truck have a tow package and brake controller? If so you should be fine with the flatbed/toyota. As for the enclosed if its empty, sure of its loaded, depends on how heavy you load it. 5-6k lbs is about the limit for that truck assuming its properly equipped.
Also is it auto or manual trans? You can burn up your clutch on a manual if you dont have a granny gear.

Truck has no tow package at the moment. Gonna get a class 3 hitch reciever and gonna get a brake control for it when the funds permit. It's a five speed manual. Gonna do an exhaust and an intake. I don't trust those chips so i won't be adding one of those. Anything else i can do to better epuip it for towing? I won't be hauling either trailers all that much but i want to be able to when i do need to. Might as well have the capabilities when i do need it rather than run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to figure out how to find a vehicle to pull a trailer.

Best thing you can do once youve got your hitch a trailer brake controller is make sure you load the trailer properly. Generally you want 60 percent of the weight in front of the trailer axle(s) and 40 percent behind. This puts enough down pressure on your rear tires to give you the traction you need with taking away to much weight from your steering tires. It also puts down force on the ball so, god forbid, if your coupler comes unlocked itll at least stay on the ball. I pulled my tractor home a couple months ago with my 04 XLT 4.6 with no trailer brakes, tractor and tractor weighed about 9,000 lbs. I just took my time, did the speed limit and was fine. Just be careful and give yourself plenty of stopping distance.

Yeah i know to load the front of the trailer with the heavier stuff. Like i said i'm used to hauling the trailers i just was driving my step dad's 7.3. I don't need a diesel by any means hahaha. I just don't to beat the living hell out of my truck. It was babied by the previous owner, who i'm guessing never even used it as a truck. So i'm trying to use it as gently as possible and make sure i have everything i need to do what i need as painlessly and properly as possible.

The 93 F150 302 and 5 speed had a very low towing weight limit. Be nice and smooth shifting. That said I towed my heavy Wrangler on a 16' flatbed all over the western US for years with either a 300 six or 302 F150 5 speed set up.

That's good to know that you hauled something heavier than my weight combo. I am not entirely sure i'll haul the enclosed anyways. I wanted to turn my toyota into a project truck and want to be able to tow it anywhere i need to to work on it places. So gal the time it probably won't even be complete. I want to eventually throw some 33's on it with either a leveling kit or a small lift. I'm probably eventually going to upgrade the clutch on it too. I'm scared changing the gearing will make my gas mileage even worse than it already is

There are a few good sized hills around my area esp on the way to where i'm probably gonna store it. Maybe i'll try conning my step dad into get an alluminum flatbed since he made the comment of maybe wanting one. Doubt he'll go for it though hahahaha.
