Like most have said you need to watch the numbers. In most cases you are good up to about 6000lbs actual TT weight. In the case of the 230BH its base weight starts out under 4000lbs, I am sure properly optioned it is in at over 4000 as you stated above. At 6000lbs you will be looking at a tongue weight of 700 to 800lbs leaving you 750 to 850lb for kids, wife, dog, wirewood etc. Your best bet is to look for trailers with GVWRs closer to 6000lbs than 7000. Good luck and enjoy RVing.

I too am new to the towing world. Love my F150, have the 3.5 tow package. Dealer/guide says the Ecoboost is in the upper 9000lb range. The trailer in this photo (dry) is about 5700lbs and there is often nothing in the bed of my truck. Wife and 3 kids up front. Towing has been great and yes, drive within your comfort zone...easier on the truck and less stress upon yourself.

I have posted before but my screw ecoboost with the 3.31 rear tows my tt fairly well. Mine is 26 foot and a dry weight of 5100. Haven't actually weighed it on the scale loaded. But I pack pretty light. Just probably a little over 150 pounds of food and luggage. Then it's me my wife and 2 kids. So if I had to guess with a full tank of gas I'm at roughly 6000 fully loaded. I don't have max tow just the regular tow package and I read on ford's site I'm good for about 8200 with 145wb ecoboost 4wd and 3.31 rear. Only thing that drives me crazy is it will pogo on some roads sometimes.

I always travel with a full fresh water tank because it is at the very rear of the trailer and lightens my hitch weight. About the only time is coming home where there isn't good water to fill it with. But, then coming home beer load is usually down to zero, so it all works out...
