Default How NOT to tow your boat...

So this happened yesterday near my home. We were driving home from a day of kayaking and passed this, thankfully on the opposite side of the road! As I'm sure you can imagine, traffic was backed up for a looong way! Route 104 in Ontario, NY

A couple ratchet straps could've saved him a lot of grief, and a truck.

Did he rear ends someone causing this? That’s a lot of boat to get airborn, agreed on the tie down straps.

Never tied the back of the boat down to the trailer, it appears.

That or someone rear ended him. You are right....I'm not sure a truck can stop hard or quick enough to launch a boat of that weight up and over the truck. I don't see a roller setup on the trailer, just carpeted beds for the boat to sit on.

Need the rest of the story here, thats a pretty decent size regal 5,500lbs at least. I don't think the truck could stop hard enough on its own to get the boat over the bow post then over the back of the truck. No damage to the back of the boat so I dont think it got hit from behind. Cant really tell if the truck hit something w/ its front end that threw the boat forward.

Weird.

From the one pic where you can see the front end the best, can't tell about the front end. However, there is no damage to the fender or headlights. I would think a hit from the front to cause that would not leave the front fenders and headlights untouched. Also, doesn't look like the front hook at the front of the boat is even damaged. Maybe he didn't have it strapped down at all, front and back.

Wonder if the boat trailer was always empty and the dude in the truck rear ended another truck/trailer /w that boat on it? I just cant see how the boat in the picture came off the trailer over the truck and ended up there. Course in my situation there would be damage to the rear of the boat.
