How much can this truck tow?
#21
Alright so I found another truck just so I can have options. The dealer sent me these two pictures. What am I looking at? Good? Bad?
This truck is 3.5L EB with 3.55 as well. Comes with max towing too! Hate the color though.

Tenkel, NOW is the time to overthink your truck config, not after delivery. Kodi is giving you a lot of good info.
Determine what your max tow will be and buy the truck that will handle your needs. Don't avg (50% of the time your at max or slightly over loaded) A properly configured outfit will give you a pleasant trip to and from your destination.
If you know a trailer upgrade is in your future. plan for it now. Maybe buy more truck today to meet the needs of tomorrow.

1800 lb payload capacity makes it almost a 1-Ton truck!! That's a real good weight hauler!
With the Max Tow package, I believe the hitch rating also goes up to something like 12,200/1220 with a WDH, but it's still 5000/500 without.
And, it will have the ITBC, which you probably won't need with surge brakes on a boat trailer.

So I'm assuming this truck is a huge go? Also, the options are exactly the same as the other truck I showed with the window sticker. The payload should be the same, or at least very close right? Since I won't be needing the ITBC, I could just go with the truck without max tow since I will be buying a WDH separately anyway right?
I'm not sure, but I don't think the Max Tow for 2015 adds any payload capacity, just another 100 lbs on the hitch rating for a WDH. And the Max Tow comes with the ITBC. And, it might possibly have Tow Mirrors.
So....the other truck with the same cab config, bed length, etc., should have about the same payload capacity.
If the first truck you were considering has something like an 1800 lb payload then it will be a very capable hauling/towing truck.

The sticker is pretty self-explanatory - like it says, if you use a WDH you're limited to a 9900 lb trailer with a max of 990 lb tongue weight. But that just the limits of the hitch, and other limits may be lower.
If there are other weight limit ratings (GCWR, max trailer weight, etc.) that are more restrictive, then the lower weight limit will apply.
You say your truck is limited to towing a max trailer weight of 6200 lbs, so that 9900 lb hitch limit is really not a restriction at all.
However, as has been mentioned in other posts, your truck's payload capacity is usually the limiting factor.
What does the sticker on your driver's side door say your payload capacity is?
If you plan to pull a TT that weighs 4900 lbs dry, it can easily weigh 6000 when wet&loaded ready to tow.
A 6000 lb TT can have a 720 tongue weight (12% of total trailer weight). With your WDH hitch mounted on the truck's hitch receiver you can have nearly 800 lbs of payload capacity used up.
If, for instance, the sticker on your truck says you have a 1300 lb payload capacity, then after the 800 lbs on your hitch, you'll have 500 lbs remaining for people and cargo in the cab and bed.
I don't know what your GCWR is, but you'd need to make sure your total rig doesn't exceed that.
Also, you'll need to go to your local CAT scales and weigh your rig to make sure your not over any axle weight limits (GAWR limits are on your door sticker).
