I have the 5.4 with 3.73 gearing. I must have been expecting more. This is my first trailer. My main concern is on the hills. Not the flats. The rpms jump up to 4000 and usually loses speed or maintains it, never speeds up. A friend had the same setup and feels the same as I do. Maybe it's just us. 😟

Sorry, but I just have to let you know...

You better slow that rig down or you WILL blow one of those chinabomb tires and tear the side out of your camper. They are only rated for 65 mph max. Besides, you'll get much better mileage too. I slowed to 60-65 max and regularly get over 10.5 mpg. with a high of 11.75 coming back from the Smokey Mountains late last year.

I know it is fun because the truck WILL do it but slow down, set the cruise control and enjoy the travels. You can do it, maybe you'll get lucky on tires for a while but sooner or later you'll pay the price and in the mean time you just have to feed the beast.

Good Travels and Happy Camping...

Now, I will step off the soap box.

I usually run with these boys and can do just as much as they can.

Our last tv & tt were similar to yours (08 Expadition & 07 26' tt ) pulled wall but was too small to have the grandkids stay with us so we upgraded to our currant setup the newer tow/hall works much better and the max tow is higher to if you are uncomfortable with the way your truck handles the hills and you can't upgrade your tv safest to stick with the tt you have

9200=9500 lbs, depending on the length of the trip. I usually get 10-11 mpg at 60-63 mph.

I know RedOne. I usually only do about 60 mph, but was trying to see what the new truck would do. We were only going about 100 miles from the house for this trip and most of it interstate. I've got to figure a way to get rid of the start/stop chucking. Actually I know of a way, just got to get down to fixing it. This Reese 16K hitch has too much fore and aft slop in the head piece. Fixing to make some teflon washers to fit the pivot pins for the head to get rid of the slack.

I was shooting for around 8500 with our loaded 5th but it's probably closer to 9k. Tow rating is 11,300 but not with an RV. The truck isn't overkill for this size but I haven't seen a need for anything more in 2200 miles towing it. It tows really well and I'm very happy with it after coming from a TT.

That is how it is for the V8s, the torque comes in at much higher RPMs. The Ecoboost tows at about 1700 RPMs at 62 mph and pulls hills at 2100 in fifth gear, sometimes 2800 in fourth. I am awed at what a great towing machine the EB Max Tow is.

My camper is a 2013 Z1 271BH dry 5800lbs max 7700
my F150 is rated at 9500 09 screw 3v 4.6l with 3.55 gears 2wd
I have no problem towing or stopping with my rig but I have a P3 controller and a Reese Trunnion Bar w/Sway Control hitch. I average about 11mpg when I tow it.

I towed mine yesterday for the first time.
My Camper is 4092LBS empty and yesterday it was dead empty.
I have a brand new P3 and equalizer.
The trip was 1 hour and all hills.
Bumping UP from a V6 Chevy Astro Van I now feel like a friggin rock star.
The 5.4V8 was a real champ yesterday. But again...everything was empty, we were not camping. RPM got high at one point I guess 4,000.

I love this truck even more now!

I will never pull on hills with fresh water full as there will always be water to fill it when I get to the provincial park.

OH...Also the water temp never once moved....in the old Chevy Van the temps would have been near max.

For my peace of mind and safety and because I tow on the busiest highway in North America I will always keep it below 7,000LBS. If I get a new camper that is 7000 loaded then I will also move up to the F250 but that's just me.

From what people wrote on thus forum all the temp gauges are dummy gauges. They will only move when the temp is alsmot on max, kind of disappointing.

And if you where referring to the 401 must be fun to drive though Markham, or Toronto for that matter .
