The nice thing about the equal i zer is that it bolts around the frame vs through it…

That would make it a better option for a horse trailer. You would have to ensure that the shank has the proper drop/rise needed for the horse trailer design.

That's the theoretical max though, and that's the dilemma I am in. The trailer right now is 300KMs away from me and I can't weigh it to get the actual tongue weight. The old system I had (provided by the dealer when I bought the trailer) was 600lbs bars, but it was stolen off the farm so I need to purchase a new one before I can even bring it home, and the nearest scale to the farm is over an hour away on crappy farm roads. I did weigh the whole lot once, and loaded for camping without water it was 5400 and change. So, with the tongue weight being 10-15% that is 540 lbs to 810 lbs at the max- but since the dry tongue weight on the sticker is 535lbs, I am leaning on the high side. So even if my tongue weight was on the low side (10% of any weight) would the 1000lbs setup be sufficient or would it be too much?

The 600lbs bars seemed to perform ok on my old TV, but it had an add a leaf so the suspension was significantly stiffer. That TV has since been traded off and now I am buying blind.

Thanks! I used that once before and it came up with 1000/10000. So I guess thats the route I will go. I just want to be triple sure I am not too much over on the bars. I read so much about the problems with over sized bars.

This is probably the cheapest place to order and ship:

This is the horse trailer model. It has the piece of diamond aluminum sheet over the frame at the front. I assume I would have to cut through this in order to mount the sway brackets.

I have a trailer that weighs very similar to yours. I am using the 1200/12000 setup as I figured I would go bigger. No issues at all with ~4500 miles towing.

As for the pins/retainers wearing out, no worries there. 4500 miles and they look the same as new. Plus they are fairly cheap to replace. I have an extra set in case something gets lost, etc., and I think I paid $25.00 for it.

Very costly, probably still cheaper to bring up from the US even with shipping.
