Here's a stupid question...

Class III "heavy duty" receiver means gross trailer weight of 3,501 t 5,000 pounds. Class IV "extra heavy duty" receiver means gross trailer weight of more than 5,000 pounds.
Most F-150 receivers are Class III when used with a WC hitch and Class IV when used with a WD hitch.

Even with a Max Tow Package? I know...I'm trying to figure out still why this was noted on my build sheet.....but just an info question.
I have an other question for y'all too. Yup....regarding the Max Tow Package. I've noticed ....as you and many have mentioned, that the Max Tow Package is ONLY available as an OPTION with the Ecoboost engine. Would that be because that engine requires that package to enable it to pull the max weight that Ford advertises? I have all the components of the Max Tow Package.......would my trim package etc just have that as standard equipment? It's not an option for my truck because it is just "naturally" there? Is that why the maximum tow capabilities stated for my truck in Ford brochures etc. don't have the little number in brackets as a "qualification" needed to attain that max tow rating?
Why does Ford recommend to use a WDH when towing UNDER 5000lbs? I can only find Ford stating that it's a recommendation to use a WDH for loads over 5000 lbs...not a requirement. Why does that robust receiver I have under the rear bumper have the same WC rating as my bumper?
So many questions and so little time LOL

Well, just got my truck build sheet and it's interesting alright. Right there, under minor features is the line "with heavy duty trailer towing". Now....how do I take that then? That is not Max Tow Package I'm assuming?

Hmm, when did the etis change to where it no longer lists installed equipment?
IIRC the HDTT is the 1100 pound receiver.

I'm not sure about that. Ya want me to research that? NO!!!!
But, I am getting more and more comfortable with my decision to leave the setup alone. I WILL continue to use my WDH for my travel trailer as there it makes a huge difference.
Please, understand that I appreciate everything being said to me in this regards. The more I dig into this..the more positive I get about it. It may just be my warped sense of thinking...but it hasn't let me down yet. Well, don't ask my wife
That sticker on the hitch...in my opinion...is there to prevent someone from overloading an aspect of their vehicle. Remember, it's a FOMOCO sticker!
If more pops up about this..I will continue the research. Right now.....I'm going to my flight sim. Less stress

Someone else mentioned ETIS no longer showing full build details—it will as long as you create an account. If not, the info is there but hidden via CSS and you can copy-and-paste the whole section into a Word Document or similar to get the rest of it.

Excellent! I have the Class IV hitch for sure then. This narrows it right down for me...and what I'm after! I will sleep better tonight! LOL

No, the "heavy duty" towing pkg is the middle towing package, order code 53A. Max tow pkg is order code 53c. Just a receiver without a towing pkg is order code 53B. The ball mount in the rear step bumper is standard equipment, so there is no order code for that.

Had an interesting reply from Ford when I asked them what hitch I got with my truck.
Their response:
"Regrettably we do not offer 3rd party recommendations for regular hitches and/or WDH at this time Harry. We do recommend that the vehicle weight ratings on the Safety Certification label affixed to your vehicle be adhered to. You can also find additional information in out trailer towing guides for your model year Ford "
It appears that they are concerned with the weights on the truck itself...of which I'm completely within...safely. I also looked at some Max Tow Packaged trucks. Their Class IV hitches also had the 500/5000 lb WC rating. Like mentioned before....written and applied by lawyers.
Pretty good test out there today for me. Was -2 C heading to the job I had for today and no issues on the sometimes slick roads. I drove with a bit of smartness too
The driveway also had an 8 degree slope to it and entirely gravel. The front tires slid once coming down but any pick up would have at those spots but no issues controlling the setup.
I appreciate the help y'all! Thanks for all the sensible replies!
