Default Heavy Duty truck reviews, Towing

Found this interesting article.

Looking at payloads and towing weights, just how DOES a Ram 2500 tow so much, with so little payload? Something sounds fishy.

The good news, they all preferred the F250 over the others.

I mean its got a 2380 lb max rating with a Crew cab cummins so theoretically 300 lbs of passengers and a 75 lb hitch stay under payload with a 10% tongue weight on a 17000 lb trailer. If you go by the as-tested payload, then yeah, the calculated tow rating should be like 15000.

I don't know where they got those numbers for the Ram 2500 because 2020 lbs is the lowest payload and the highest is 3160. There are no models for 2017 that go down to 1960 lbs.

The 2020 lb payload can tow 15,440 lbs
The 3160 lb payload can tow 17,980 lbs

Meanwhile the highest payload for an F-250 is 3880 lbs and can tow 18,000 lbs.

Probably the as-tested payload. Just like Ford claims an F150 screw 6.5' bed can have like 2000 lbs of payload but a loaded lariat has 1500.

For some reason the URL in your post was not a clickable link. But when I quoted it, it was converted into a clickable link.

No, I have no idea why.

That's odd, was working when posted, but have seen that happen before too.
