Haulin' LONG stuff - What Markers?
 

OK, my '18 has the 5.5 foot bed and I recently brought some 8-foot 2x4's home from the 'Orange' store. To be legal, I tied them out the back and put a paper red flag on 'em.
Then I started wondering....where can I get a tail-light that will clamp to the load and plug into the trailer plug?
Of course I can make it BUT if it's already made and available for a few bucks....Hmmm
Anybody know of anything? (Thanks for all replies).....

You'll probably have to buy the parts and assemble it yourself:

1] male 30-amp RV trailer plug (that will plug into the 7-pin trailer plug on your back bumper)
2] wiring diagram for trailer plug
3]12-amp auxiliary tail light of your choice, rigged up with some way to tie the tail light assembly to the long payload (bungie cords or rope or clamps)

That's all you need for just that tail light, and you can maybe get by with two strands of wire. (I don't claim to know much about automotive wiring, but there are several experts on this forum that can set you straight..)

Use the wiring diagram to determine which pins on the trailer plug must be "hot" for the new tail light to work when the lights on the tow vehicle are turned on. Ignore the other pins on your plug unless you want more than the tail light to work.

Use the "hot" 12-volt wire and the ground wrie to wire into the tail light assembly.

Thanks Somkeywren... I figured I'd have to '"make' one (was just bein lazy) ! I have power extension adapters for a camper and a heavy duty coiled cord...may just use that with a tail lamp and clamp. Hmmmm, I think a vintage Ford taillight would definitely be best! :thumbsup:

Zip tie, tape or otherwise secure these and just plug in.

Better idea. Your F-150 probably has a 4-pin as well as a 7-pin trailer connector. So if all you want is for the auxiliary tail light to work, forget the 7-pin connector. Instead buy a 4-pin extension cord , and wire that into the new tail light. Here's a 20-footer that you an cut down to the proper length. Other than the ones found by rsylvstr, that's about as close to what you're looking for as you're likely to find.
