Smokey, what's your opinion on the diesel. When would you opt for it over the gasser?

The current 6.7L PSD is a wonderful engine that with proper maintenance and TLC should last about 20 years or 400,000 miles at my current useage rate of 20k miles per year. I would pay the extra for the diesel for any trailer that has GVWR more than about 10,000 pounds.

And I would also pay a bit extra to get the F-350 SRW instead of the F-250. My last F-250, a '99.5 with 8,800 GVWR, was slightly overloaded when towing my 8,000-pound 5er. My current F-150 with 7,100 GVWR is slightly overloaded when towing my 5,000-pound TT. I don't like being even slightly overloaded, so next time I'll be sure to buy enough truck for my trailer.

If it were me I would definately get the dually. It adds stability on the highway, especially in cross winds. As pointed out the turbo diesel is the way to go pulling heavy loads long term, you can't beat the torque and that is what moves weight. Personally I would have no problem going full time with a '15 or even a very low mileage '14. Just depends what's avalible. Also, get the highest trim you can. If you're going full time you're going to be in the tow vehicle just as much as the house so you'll want all the creature comforts you can get. As has been pointed out, better to go high end once then on the second try.

Big difference pulling a trailer over 13K pounds with a dually...well worth the money if you're pulling any distances for the safety and stability. Only drawbacks are the physical size of a dually. If you drive them on a regular basis it should be no problem. Buddy of mine is still driving his 1999 F-350 crew cab dually for his daily driver when not pulling his 5th wheel and he bought the truck new.
