In fact, owning the 3.0L Diesel, due to the torque at lower rpm, we dont need to give it a lot of pedal to get it going, it pulls like a freight train with not much effort, which is nice and less stressful than a foot load of 3.5EB at 5,000 rpm. Nothing wrong with that at all.

But I did rent a 3.3L gas engined XLT from National a few weeks back, and I thought....this was gonna be a dog. But it really surprised me, it pulled strong, and ran well with great gas milage. I could see owning one of those 3.3L and not look back.

All in all, I would urge peeps to give in and actually experience these two engines before you make the popular choice of the 2.7 or 3.5 which are awesome motors and deserve credit for sure. If you havent driven the diesel, I would recommend it. It is a different animal altogether.

P,S. I really like diesel motors, and only bought mine due to wanting that diesel. I did not buy it for any other reason at all. Its a pavement princess, I know that...and it wouldnt pull the skin of a rice pudding as far as towing...but it is a technical marvel, and I really enjoy it emotionally if that makes sense.

Also...just ordered one of the last Ford Flex...a 2019...3,5EB AWD....so as you can see, not hating the 3.5EB.

Thanks all.
Not sure what you mean by 3.5EB at 5000 rpm. Mine never goes past about 2800 at 50 mph up the steepest hill.

Peak horsepower it comes close but still shy of the 5.4 V8....peak torque isn’t even close. The 5.4 Triton peaks much lower in the rev range and has 100 lb-ft more than the 3.3 at its peak.
